The best way to fight this is throw out mainstream media, go alternative, and support the system as little as possible. Go minimalist, and only spend what you absolutely have to, and work just hard enough to maintain a decent standard of living. I have no cell phone, no credit card, no debt, no sprog, 30 year olde car, very 'basic' flat, vegetarian diet, no vanity items, cheap clothes I wear until they fall apart, never eating at a restaurant again, and the list goes on. I'm doing fine on a technically poverty level salary with the help of my flatmate. We combine resources, and are quite comfortable.

I can confirm that our galactic colleagues have and are continuing to assist us.
