Impressive. That guide for the tap & die set is brilliant out of the box thinking. I was half joking about the frame jig and silver brazing, but if you can get yourself a welder to practice brazing on broken cheap fillet brazed frames, who knows? I'm really happy for you mate. You're channel is going from strength to strength.

Cheers Badger! The die I have for 1 1/8” has a welded on guide for the steerer so that’s where the idea came from ☺️

Nice work! Cool variation on your content too, if you ever decide to market the parts you make let us know - maybe stick something on retrobike? 👌

I’ve got some different filament to play around with so when I’ve worked that out I might just stick them on RB. Im sure there are a few that would find some bits useful!

A 3d printer is an unexpectedly good tool for a hobbiest/diyer - once you have one it really opens up possibilities to problem solving. I recommend dipping your toes in PETG as opposed to PLA - it is much better suited for functional parts (more durable, flexible under stress, heat resistant, also non-toxic compared to ABS). Great video as always

Thanks! I ordered some PETG yesterday after looking at the different types. It’ll be interesting for me to see how different it prints.

Welcome to a whole new rabbit hole! You have designed some nice parts! For outdoor applications I recommend checking out PETG filament, PLA will deteriorate under UV-light.

@MRLIROCK

@@KarlosEPM Concerning UV-light the less color pigments the better. Thus clear PETG should be the strongest.

Little tip use brims instead of rafts they are allot easier to remove. Also you can get parts 3d printed in Aluminum for Not a crazy price I just learned. So I print bike parts in plastic test them out and then send my design out to be printed in aluminum! One last thing you can use Ultimaker Cura with a ender 3 its what the creality slicer is based off of and it's much better.

They are amazingly useful. I used mine the other day to fix our shower rail. The world's your oyster when you get better with the modelling. I've been doing CAD/CAM for 20 odd years so felt I NEEDED to get a 3D printer 😄😄

I find that PETG is the better material for printing bike parts. It is UV and weather resistant. Doesn't always print as nice and clean as PLA but also doesnt creep. And it is tuff enuf. I even make bike tire levers out of it.

very cool, it would be interesting to see how durable the parts you printed out are, would be interested in an update after 'X' amount of time, keep us posted... I guess the next toy would be a printer to create decals for you yeah? or a CAD/CAM milling machine lol

Well the PLA isn’t seen as ‘ideal’ for functional outdoor parts so I’ve ordered some PETG that’s been recommended. I’ll be able to try some bits out then.

Loved that you were able to recreate the broken parts - having seen your short preview I thought you might be using a printer at your work - but this is cool. This printer looks like it uses thermoplastics. Not a fan of white ..can it handle pigmented thermoplastic polymers? I have lots of technical questions but I think they maybe better directed to the manufacturer. One of my friends has access to a metal printer... the possibilities....
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred Жыл бұрын
Yeah it can print PLA/ ABS and PETG and you can get them in all different colours. I’ve just ordered some of the latter because it’s more suited to functional outdoors parts than the PLA.

I’ve seen folks use RIT fabric dye to alter the plastic color of things like action figures. I’d be curious to know if these parts can stand up to the same treatment, if being limited to white isn’t the ideal.
