In reality, the molten gold would have burned the ink and, once cooled, would no longer have been liquid, making it impossible to impregnate a pen with it. So writing with gold mixed in ink is chemically and physically impossible...but still...

Would have made more sense to grind it into a power and then mixed with ink, that would allow writing with it and bind it to the pages. Also gold melts at 1948 F and paper burns at 451 F, and not completely, so you probably then end up with gold powder mixed in with a lot of ash and still not easy to identify and separate. A great way to hide gold is to dissolve it in aqua regia. Just looks like a reddish-yellow liquid of no consequence. It can be recovered with a chemical reaction that precipitates it out as a powder. During WWII the Nobel gold medals of scientists of Max von Laue and James Franck, were dissolved in aqua regia at the Neils Borh Institute in Copenhagen by George de Hevesy to prevent the Nazis from confiscating them. The bottles sat on a shelf in the institute throughout the war. After the war, the gold was precipitated out and the Nobel Society recast the awards from the original gold.

It's possible that when he "melted" it in the pot he actually dissolved in a hot solution of potassium cyanide, which would have yielded potassium dicyanoaurate, which is a white salt that is quite soluble in water, and then by adding an alkali-compatible dye, he turned it into black ink.

@@doorkum I was hyped and seriously disappointed, yes, the main cast was there, but the charm was trully gone.. The serie had its funny and serious moments, the movie was.. Just not as good, really. A huge shame because i loved the characters, they couldn’t revive what made the serie memorable, i think they should have left it at it was, Monk meeting the daughter of Trudy and them bonding in a father-daughter way. It didn’t needed more than that.
