Father, so very glad you are keeping well as I know a lot of your viewers like myself will have been worrying about you. Any content from you is more than welcome albeit from your Roman microshop.

When in Rome! Look at some of the Roman woodworking at Museums and historical tools from Ancient Rome, Roman woodworking techniques, Etc. You could show what Rome has to offer on the Historical Woodworking Front as you are in the Heart of it for that area and Era of history!!!!!

Thanks for the update; you were missed. I'd like to offer a suggestion. You live amongst history that most of us will never see; history that includes the work of some of the greatest master craftsmen of their time. What about videos highlighting that work? I'd love to see the work of master wood carvers, master carpenters, joinery, etc. The stone carvers who worked on the great churches and cathedrals would employ wood carvers to make models (templates) of the designs for all of the masons to follow. Maybe you could pick a design from a column or plinth and then reverse engineer it to show the carving / chipping techniques used to make that model. This wouldn't require the resources of a full woodshop and would provide unique content. On a seperate note; if you find yourself back here in Missouri and have the time I'm sure there are several of us who "wood" enjoy the opportunity to break bread and share fellowship with you. Best wishes for safe travels.

Sounds like life is going well as is your ministry. Love hearing from you and you might try a little chip carving project as an intro for those of us that have never given it a try. You stay in my prayers Fr. Thomas.

Good to hear from you again. Italian craftsmen have done some magnificent work. A look at modern craftsmen following the lead of their forefathers would be interesting. In any case Good luck and God bless you!

Having just come from the US back to Italy I'm in mandatory quarantine. When I left Italy in July to visit family in the States, things were starting to get back to normal here.

I would be interested in the smaller projects - especially carvings! Shown us a quick tour of something in Italy that inspired a carving. Just please steer away from a lot of time lapse. Such video editing is often lazy on the editor and boring to the viewer imho. I was thinking ‘what about the trailer’ right before you answered that. Btw, I’m not 100% sure on this, but i think the mold issue is not a matter of just keeping water out but also allowing moisture to escape. Tightly wrapped up in plastic is not allowing that trailer to breathe. If it’s under roof maybe ask someone to take off that wrap and just loosely cover it with a tarp in such a way so as to allow air to move around it, maybe even through it and put a dehumidifier inside for a while to get rid of the mold. Just my .02

Thank you for the update; glad to see you are doing well. I'd be interested in seeing some of the chip carving you mentioned, either your own work or examples of that of others. My dad has a piece of Frisian chip carving made by his mom's brother while he was in a sanitarium in the Netherlands at some point during the 30s or 40s. I want to say it it had a large central cross and a series of rosettes in the background; not sure if it had Scripture or some other words on it.

Thomas, I'm really happy that you gave us an update, I messaged you and I was curious and hadn't heard back. I'm sorry that you were transferred with your job... I believe in the Catholic church you don't really get a choice of your assignment, is that right? Anyway... arrivederci

Let me know if you're interested in talking about integration of electronics into woodworking. I've been getting started on building some into puzzle boxes, and have taught electronics classes pretty regularly in the past.

That's something I'd need to do some research in first; I don't know anything about that.
@HappyDane4844 жыл бұрын
I don't have a ton of experience with it, but the little I have it was almost like just making a large stamp. Maybe do some research into "wood cuts"'. I think it would be able to incorporate some of the wood carving you were talking about.
