@@KeyWestWaterman I haven't been spearfishing in probably 15 years after moving from Tampa to Atlanta, but I still watch all of your videos despite no diving trips on the horizon. I do miss dropping down on groupers, hogfish, mutton snappers, etc...nothing beats spearfishing.

I think you get more shooting distance out of Dyneema as well. At least the softer one. I love that for open water fishes

Nice series Aaron. Your are right - use the stiffer Dyneema. The softer ones can lead to muzzle wraps, besides can tangle badly underwater as well. Cheers from fishy Panama > PS: forgot to mention that I prefer white Dyneema (high viz in murky water) for both the shooting and the reel line as it allows to exactly see how the lines are pulled thru the water by the shot fish - this helping your buddy to SEE where the fish is especially for doing the backup (kill) shot. I feel all the other colors are absorbed too quickly underwater (the reddish ones first).

Love the videos so far! Thank you for keeping them short! Being able to keeping things simple shows true mastery. One thing I’ve seen some guys using around me in is a shaft slider ring. I’ve tried to find more info on why you would use them but no one has a straight answer. Some say it’s for a shock absorber others say it adds to accuracy. I’d be curious as to your thoughts on them. Thanks!

I don't recommend any certain type. I recommend you try some on and find one that fits properly, everyone's face is so different. it's not one size fits all.

what are your thoughts on using braid fishing line in the 150 pound class for reel line? thinner..cheaper than dyneema have jbl 120 cm euro speargun will be outfit with a reel also have short jbl 38 for close work large intended close shots open water for mahi and cobia shorter for inshore reef hogfish n such

Would probably be a nightmare and dangerous. Braid cuts when pulled tight around something. And I imagine it would tangle very easily. Just from my fishing experience with it. Also don’t think it has much abrasion resistance. I would not recommend it but I could be wrong.

SS cable, It sinks inmediatelly. Dyneema, floats and when you pull in a fish it's a mess, 50 yrs Myself, Dad and his Buddy another 30 Yrs each, and no problem, Spooled about 50yds on a conventional trolling reel.

To each their own! Sinking line is more of a hassle in my opinion. I’ve never had my reel line tangle if you know how to manage line properly. But that’s the beauty of it. We all have the right to choose what we want.

Love your channel. @ Questions: How do you determine the length of each band on individual guns? And, I never see you use the "Pistol Grip" on your spearguns. Why are they still on the guns? Thanks.

Just measure the length of the bands previously on it if you are replacing them. If you buy a gun without bands you can just call the manufacturer and see when size and length they recommend. There are formulas but some guns can only handle certain stretch percentages. If you over power a gun it can become inaccurate. And I’m not sure what you mean by the pistol grips? The handle? Where the trigger is?

I have not noticed an accuracy difference in either, nor shaft drag. If you have the instruments to test such subtle differences I would be extremely impressed.

There are plenty of other amazing guides out there, I stopped charters for a variety of reasons. It was for the best and still am very happy with my decision.

Mono is the way to go. If you need to cut anything just cut the dyneema off your reel by the mono connection. Dyneema has a floating tenancy that is very annoying as a shooting line.

Again not everyone dives the way that I do. Mono may be better for others. The frequency at which i dive. Dyneema last much much longer. Can get a year or more out of it. I get a month out of mono before it’s all kinked to hell if I’m lucky.

This series for beginners is great, there's something here for everyone. I use mono and dyneema both depending on situation, and I like hearing a perspective on it from someone else.
