Crescendo of Hymn ascends from the depths... as Japan's instrumental epic MONO draw forth universal rapture with recent album Hymn to the Immortal Wind. After their mesmerizing monument of a debut visit in 2007, they return to Australia on the back of Hymn. Screw Music For The People, this is music for the gods. Japan's Mono have been tugging the heartstrings of the faithful for almost 10 years with their, y'know, grand post-rock symphonies, and their fifth album is as ambitious as ever, teeming as it is with crashing guitars and cinematic strings. Pure As Snow (Trails Of The Winter Storm) soars above a maelstrom of melody and noise, the 13-minute The Battle To Heaven conjures angels and demons clashing with flaming swords and Everlasting Light burns and builds and dies with staggering grace. Pretentious, yes, but defiantly so. Hymn feels like the imaginary soundtrack to the film inside your head and is an outstanding work of epic beauty. NME 8/10

There are not many songs written to this day that stirs my feelings up as much as this song does, that makes me reflect on my own life as much as this song does, that speaks more to me than this song does, that says more to me than this song does. Without a single word written or sung it says so many thing to me, this song makes me cry every time.. This song speaks without words, it is a masterpiece.

What I like is the fact that the song's name is Yearning. And the whole song sounds like it was a yearning. You can picture a whole episode of an ansiety or a panic attack. It goes from just the crying to the most destructive part. Absolutely beautiful.

Mono always takes me to the darkest places, these guys and gbye really break down your self-righteousness and make you like at life from a very cold and cynical perspective. It's beautiful in its own way I guess. There aren't many things that can bring you to reality like Mono.

I know Mono is a shoegaze band, and I agree that Goto and Suematsu are amazing guitarrists, and that they definitely have a way of playing that is mandatory to pay attention and watch it for a long time in order to understand what is going on on this fantastic music. But why exactly is Kunishi shown for less than a minute and there is absolutely no close up of hers playing, wich by the way is by no means less out of ordinary as the rest of the band. Is that sexism or pure hatred against bassists?

ithink its because the way they play are not very clear to most people and people who watch it can figure it out. thats the reason i watch it carefully just to pick some techniques.

@@rorz999 I love radiohead, but if Radiohead had songs like this then I'd like them even more. Tbh Radiohead have 2 great guitarists in their own right but MONO are just like miles ahead
