FINALLY! I’ve found the Chanel that actually gives examples of what they’re doing and opposed to time wasted watching others beating on panels without describing what’s happening.

Although I'm an amateur body man, I've been restoring Spridgets and Minors for nearly 40 years. Since the introduction of KZbin, I've learned a ton of what I'm doing wrong. Occasionally, I see a basics video that catches my attention. Let me say if I'd had this video 40 years ago, it would have saved me hours of doing things over and over. Great video! One disagreement though, I have the same cheap set from which you got your coma dolly and I use the hammer pick a lot. I rounded the pick to almost a ball, and sometimes it's perfect, and I use the hammer anywhere I don't want to mar the face of a good hammer. Thanks for the great videos

My old "panel and paint hand skills" teacher couldn't have explained and demonstrated it better. He used a "slapper" with great skill, pretty amazing tool in skilled hands...

Hi Chuck, great video on the proper selection and use of body working tools. I agree on the uselessness of the shrinking hammer, I destroyed more than corrected. However it makes a great meat tenderizer mallet in the kitchen. We all have our favorite hammers and dollies. Mine I got as a kid 49 years ago when I repaired my E-Type. My son also liked it for pounding in 16 penny nails. Repaired it and still use it. Keep the videos coming.

Did Mactool discontinue the Curved Cross Chisel Hammer, Wood Handle or did they redesign it? It would be great if you listed where to buy your recommended tools with a link and this could possibly bring you revenue. Just an idea. Cheers Dr. Ginge

Hi Chuck. I coulbn't agree more. You have to have a dependable slapper and make sure you wear the appropriate gloves when abusing ......l mean using her .....l mean it !😂😂😂 We all have our favourite tool to use ! ( 😨!) Seriously though ! My favourite's are my "proto" planishing and pick hammer's . They were the first tools l ever bought as an apprentice panelbeater in 1970 ! I trained at a Jaguar /Daimler /Rover/Triumph/Landrover main dealer (uk) l've bought a number of different hammers and dollies and they all come in useful . Some l may only use once every few years but when l do the're worth every penny. I would never tell a duck how to suckle her eggs but . When you pien over the door skin you have to make sure you don't hammer the edge as this will stretch and distort it , the hammer you use is very narrow so this will rarely hit the edge. I've never had one and use my planishing hammer . So when l pien the edges over l do two things . I keep the dollie very slightly behind the outer edge so if l were to miss hit , the hammer won't crush and distort the skin . And with the hammer l come in at a angle so the inner face of the hammer strikes the inner edge of the fold. However, if l could wind the clock back 50years l would invest in a proper door skin hammer ! I only discovered you on youtube a few weeks ago and absolutely love your passion and knowledge of all things "e"type . l'm still on catch up but have discovered a vast amount about these beautiful cars watching your shows . Thanks Chuck .

And the way I learned is don’t stretch by hitting the curved dolly in the middle of the dent you use the dolly to push up the dent while you massage the highs into the lows and I use a panel file to find my highs and lows very rarely you actually want to stretch the metal by hammer and dolly contact hitting as every hit is a stretch which is mostly used for hammering out mig welds and welding repairs

I am working on my bonnet now. After stripping my hood, I found a lot of picking, drilling, and dents. Nose was dented too with a crease. I didn't have slapper in my cheap kit. I am going to harbor freight tomorrow. I actually found it is relaxing to work on the body. I personally never wrecked it, so I never learned this craft. I also want to form the nose again. Looks like it will be interesting. BTW I got your 1.0 headlight kit and it is working real nice. I had to work on my welding a little. :-)

Hi sir, im referring to the dent at 25.20, did you put dolly at the centre of the dent then started( off dolly)slapping around the edges of dent or carried out this job on dolly. Cheers

Thank you, all i suggest is it would've been better if you had used a guide coat on the panel as it makes it easier to see the high and low spots.

Looks like you need to polish the dollies you will transfer those nicks to the finish product. If it's too soft heat it with a torch and throw water on it to make it harder. LOL
