Performed live on his Monodeck. It seemed mindblowingly futurist to see it at the time. Even now it still stands miles away from the way people perform electronic music, in the sense that not many people can coax such huge performances out of ableton and a controller the way Robert did and does. Robert and his monodeck became the prototype for controllers such as the APC40 and Push, etc. I was doing a BA Electronic Art at the time of this show, and we actually studied Max and studied the way Ableton had been made by Robert and Gerhard, directly inspired by Max ensembles they had made for live performance. So to see this gig was something special. Thanks for posting.

The thing is, the screen was not even a centre of focus, as it was all played on his Monodeck. So i cannot even remember the laptop at all. it obviously was there, but he did not need it. The monodeck was the show.

The Idea of the Monodeck is to performe without screen.. Every Led represents a function of an abelton live clip

I would say that it is some topic that you can describe easily. There are some artists, like Aphex Twin, who just go to the studio TO PUT THEIR EARLIER INVENTED MELODY INTO THE SEQUENCER!!! AND THATS IT!!! I strongly believe that it is superior to the experimental approach!!! the latter can be good:) because it is the effect that matters. IT IS NUMBER ONE PROBLEM OR THE MOST IMPORTANT FACT: ART IS THE EFFECT, NOT THE METHOD!!! but when they say that Ableton's experimental techniques are revultionary, they suggest, that experimental METHOD is something basic and essential!!! AND THAT IS NOT TRUE, the best method is actually not the try and error!!! experimental is cool, but normal composing, have the plan, melody, conception, direction, goal, is WAY MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN TRY AND ERROR!!!

there is something to be say about a live execution though, it holds some value.

To a degree. But Miles Davis. And it's not either/or, it's a process.

I THINK IT IS PERSONAL, INTIMATE PROBLEM!!! IN THEORY THE IN MY HEAD MELODY IS SOMETHING SUPERIOR TO TRY AND ERROR. IN PRACTICE THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL WHO HAS THE RIGHT!!! YET I ALREADY STATED THAT EFFECT IS THE ONLY TOPIC, NOT THE METHOD. so maybe saying that try&error is something worse, is too cruel:)) or brutal and relentless. it's just like that, they do it like that, YET THE MARKETING OF ABLETON IS SO CONTROVERSIAL THAT I WAS THAT CRUEL AND BRUTAL DOMINA IN MY PREVIOUS POST TO STATE THAT TRY AND ERROR SUX!!! IF NOBODY SAYS THAT EXPERIMENTAL TRY AND ERROR METHODS ARE NECESSARY IN COMPOSING - THEN EVERYTHING IS PERFECT. but Ableton dudes insist on the try and error method so much, they WORSHIP ANY EXPERIMENT AND RANDOM TRIES - that you have to ask if they have enough ready in the head ideas?? maybe they need too much help from smart procedures?? THEY KNOW IT!!! in the manual and in the marketing the PRAISE THE EXPERIMENT, all the funky randomization alghorythms. WHEN THE HENKE DUDE IS HONEST, he states clearly: MY CREATIVE PROCESS IS NOT EFFORTLESS, . what is the topic of his thoughts?? ALL THE CRAZY EXPREIMENTS ON NUMBERS AND WAVES, ALL THE CRAZY SHIFTING, DRIFTING, POLARYZING. I CAN ASSURE YOU, because I love the experimental approach, SO I KNOW THE PROBLEM. the best composing, the smooth and easy going, is JUST FEELING THE MELODY AND FOLLOWING IT. FREE YOUR DECK AND THE SCRATCH WILL FOLLOW, as they say!!!
