Monome Norns Arcologies + Launchpad + iPad

This is my first run with #Arcologies script running on a custom #nornsshield. The 2 launchpads are emulating a Monome Grid via #midigrid library. Arcologies is sequencing #decentsampler piano and #zeeonsynth on the iPad, spiced up with #k7d delay, #tapepro and #scatterbrain.

When using Launchpad instead of MonomeGrid what adjustments did you make in the Shield ? Is Launchpad already plug&play with the scripts?

unfortunately not natively, but you can add launchpad support to many scripts by manually adding the midigrid library to the scripts.

you have to install the midigrid library and alter 1 line of code in its .lua file. Check out the offcial midigrid docs for detailed information: norns.community/authors/jaggednz/midigrid Hope this helps!

How did you get the norns to send midi to ipad? been losing my mind over how to figure it out , thanks !

i was there too 😉 It doesn’t work with usb midi directly unfortunately. I had to get 2 cheap usb to midi cables and connected them via a 2x midi female adapter. Nowadays i‘m using a cme widibud pro plugged into the norns, works great with a ble connection to the ipad and no cables.

How did you get Arcologies to talk to Decent Sampler? As far as I knew, Norns doesn't talk to the Ipad.

hey, thanks for stopping by. Here i was using a cheap usb-midi cable from the Norns to another usb-midi cable connected to the ipad. Meanwhile i'm using a single CME Widibudpro on the Norns for connecting to the iPad over bluetooth, which is way more convenient.

Where do you plug your aux in this set up? Do you use headphones or a speaker?

In this case i just used bluetooth headphones connected to the ipad, because latency isn’t a crucial factor. But if i want to record external devices or use speakers or wired headphones, i’m using an usb audiointerface connected to the ipad.

@@ryangarcia1029 If i only need a midi connection, i'm using 2 cheap midi-usb-interfaces connected together. If i need midi + audio, i'm using one usb-midi interface on the norns going into the midi connector of an audio interface connected to the iPad + audio cable from the norns into the ipad's interface as well.
