It's true that they were the first, but Replay dance practice was the first one. I read somewhere that BoA and other artists had made some dance practice videos before that, but the difference is that hers were leaked rather than purposefully published. Lucifer is the one that popularised dance practises!

@@mithrilg2286 before Lucifer, the dance practice were filmed to help the artists and choreograph to debrief and work on it. And really was proper "practice". Lucifer is the first which goal was to show off the dance routine raw (but perfectly executed)

I'm pretty sure Lucifer was the first SHINee song I ever heard - either Lucifer or Sherlock. I love how relentless it is...basically just SHINee eating my soul. Me watching the Lucifer video for the first time: Everyone has terrible hair - those cheekbones tho - really good looking - SHOULDERS XD. As for comparative looks in videos, you'll find looks and sounds trend across companies and groups. Taemin and Key hated their hair, btw. I hope you enjoyed Taemin's Shirt from Hell. Lucifer was what introduced me to SHINee in 2010 and since then they’ve been the only kpop boy group I had any interest in. This song, when it gets stuck in your head will make you sing it through the whole day. Timeless bop, that’s what Lucifer is. And you’re right, those harmonies that happen every now and then are awesome. As for the dancing, like some already said in their comments, Lucifer was the first real dance practice video and god but these boys can dance! Their synchronization is crazy!

btw Bebe Rexha wrote this song!! That was first SHINee song that I heard looooong time ago (I was a huge j-pop fan but sometimes listened to popular k-pop tracks by chance). Became obsessed with Minho’s rap part, kept rewinding it lol Lucifer was in the playlist since 2012ish when I wasn’t even into k-pop. that’s crazy they seem to make all movements really simple and effortless (esp Taemin) but I was amazed how hard the dance is actually. and really catchy lol

SHINee's "Lucifer" came out in 2010, almost 10 years ago, so this was just kind of the look that a lot of MVs had back then. Take a look at a TVXQ, Super Junior, Infinite or 2PM MV, etc. from around that time and you will see a similar look and style. SHINee was setting trends in the industry with 'Lucifer." LOL Most new viewers are thrown by SHINee's style and look in this MV. But I think they are actually all pretty cool for doing something different that sets them apart from everyone else in the industry. And that is what makes SHINee legends and why "Lucifer" is such an iconic song and dance.You're not going to remember a group or a song if they look and sound the same as everyone else, you remember them for standing out and not being afraid to be unique. In the MV the boys don't have superpowers, but the "smoke" or "light trail" you see is supposed to represent the aura of a girl who has devilish powers like Lucifer, who is trying to possess them and take over their lives. As the English lyrics say "Loveaholic, robotronic ... her whisper is the Lucifer." (They are using auto tune because they are supposed to be "robotronic"-ly controlled by the girl who is "The Lucifer." So the auto tune is meant to make them sound robotic.) So, in other words, the women or girl they are talking about is so desirable that she is like Lucifer and you have to use all your willpower just to resist her wiles. In the MV you see them trying to fight against her powers and resist her attempts to try to make them bend to her will, etc. That's why in the choreography you see all the robotic moves because they are showing how "Lucifer" is trying to control them like a robot -- for example, they put their wrists together like they are being handcuffed to show how she is trapping them. And they vibrate to show how they are being manipulated by "Lucifer" and they are trying to resist her powers, etc. (FYI: That vibration you saw them do is 100% them actually shaking like that, there aren't any camera tricks. If you pay attention when they perform Lucifer live, you will see them do that exact same thing. :D) LOL we have no idea why they were dancing in front of a sports car, but that was kind of an iconic thing that Kpop companies did back then in a lot of their MVs, The group would dance around a fancy car to showoff their coolness and to give the video a more futuristic, expensive looking aesthetic. Key is our diva and fashionista of the group who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. SHINee are known for setting trends and never being afraid to experiment with their sound or look, so Key's head was 100% really shaved bald on the one side. What you see is his head has been shaved all the way down to his scalp. He is known for always being unique and wanting to standout. That's why Key's style is often just straddling the edge of outrageous, but somehow always manages to look cool. This was the era where Taemin had long hair and it made him one of the most popular of the members at the time, especially with their Japanese fans. The Japanese culture really embraces men with long hair and the members said that he was one of the most popular at the time because of his style. Taemin with long hair is so iconic and many in the fandom were really sad when he eventually cut his hair. When Taemin debuted as a member of SHINee in 2008 he was only 14 years old, so in "Lucifer" he is only about 16. Onew and Jonghyun are around 20 and Minho and Key are about 18. SHINee are one of the most iconic and influential groups as trendsetters. Like I often remind people who are new to Kpop, when watching these older MVs you have to put everything into context of when it was released. Like most of SHINee's songs, "Lucifer" was actually ahead of its time in 2010 when it first came out. SHINee are known for never being afraid to experiment with their style and sound in a song and for the fact that no two songs of their's will ever be the same even on the same album. SHINee are always setting trends never following them Therefore, nothing you hear from SHINee will ever sound the same and yet somehow it will always sound like SHINee.:D As you know, if you want to see where SHINee truly shines you have to check out their iconic performance of "Lucifer" Live in concert. But the minute they try to sing the song and/or dance the choreography, they soon discover that it is way more complicated then they thought. But the first thing Jonghyun said to them, while laughing, was "oh no, actually its one of our more difficult choreography and it took us extra time to really perfect it." :D SHINee's "Lucifer" dance practice was the very first dance practice video ever released specifically for fans. SHINee is the group that started the trend and they are why dance practice videos are even a thing today. :D It was the very first dance practice video to go viral, even before viral was a thing. Back then dance practice videos were filmed for the group and artists to watch to help them remember the moves and to fix mistakes, etc. They weren't intended for a mass audience. But SM realized that fans were starting to try and copy SHINee's choreography and they decided to film a dance practice and release it to the public. SHINee's dance practice videos became so popular that other companies and groups started to follow suite and showoff their choreography by releasing dance practices too.

Ahh!! The icon, the legend that is LUCIFER. Coz of this, muggles started to take kpop groups seriously and recognize them for dancing. The more I watch it, repeatedly, the more I see the intricacies and the tiny bits of movement and details, hands to their feet. SHINee smoothly transitions from one spot and formation to the other. This is the song that brought me into Kpop, I loved it when I first heard it 7 years ago and I still love it to this day. The vocals, omg the vocals. I heard this and dived right into Kpop, I haven't looked back and no regrets. I have discovered so many wonderful artists with incredible talent. SHINee will always have my heart, love this group. This was my first shinee mv and i was like what is this. It was my first kpop video. I did see the vocal ability, but was confused because it was a song different from the first song I heard by them, Stand By Me, which intially intrigued me because the chorus was in English and I wanted to see if they had more of the same type of songs. It took a little to grow on me, and grow on me it did so much to the point like its a song I can sing most of the lyrics to. I stayed for the vocals and then the performance. Later it came clear to me that SHINee has variety from house, ballad, jazz swing, r&b, dance and other genres.

shinee were the pioneers in uploading their practice videos of their choreographies in Korea, they are pioneers in many aspects that is why I admire them so much, much of what I see in groups currently I had already seen in SHINee, SHINee is fine palates who know about things excellent and of quality. Really love Shinee. Thank you for the reaction! Thoroughly enjoyed it. I do own quite a few 1st gen SM dance practices. Some are purposely released to the fans, however, because stream culture like 'KZbin' didn't exist, it is true, unlike Shinee ones, they weren't released for general public consumption. There are some allegedly 'leaked' ones, but some are released through special documentaries or the official fanclub as behind-the-scene goodies like this one from 2001 kzbin.info/www/bejne/inmrZp2potJ8aa8 . (The BoA and Blackbeat ones are more comprehensive, but then you couldn't get Shinhwa to film a proper dance practice if their lives depended on it lol~)

I have a difficult time watching them now that J is gone...when I do, I can hear in my mind his vocal part in the songs :( One of my favorite solos is Onew singing Opera and my group favorite is the live version at the Tokyo Dome of 'Evil'.
