BD Media Special Report: Monsoon Flooding Chhatak Sunamganj Bangladesh.
In Sunamganj's Chhatak, about a hundred of villages in six unions have been flooded, Chhatak upazila chairman constituents' homes were flooded. The road between Tahirpur and Sunamganj town has been flooded and closed to traffic. Thousands of families are living in fear of losing their homestead, he added. People who took shelter on the embankments of the upazila are living in the open and suffering from shortages of drinking water and food, locals said.
Floodwaters rushing down from highlands in India have inundated much of the low lying areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts. While the Surma river has swollen above the danger level, water levels of the Cholti, Patli and Jadukata rivers are rising every day. Heavy rain upstream, in India's Meghalaya, is aggravating the situation. At least 182 flooded schools and colleges in the districts have been forced to close.

সুনামগঞ্জের ছাতক শহরে ছয়টি ইউনিয়নের প্রায় 100 টি গ্রাম প্লাবিত হয়েছে, ছাতক উপজেলা চেয়ারম্যানের বাসভবনগুলির ঘর বন্যা হয়ে গেছে। তাহিরপুর ও সুনামগঞ্জ শহরের রাস্তা বন্যা ও ট্রাফিক বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে। হাজার হাজার পরিবার তাদের বাসস্থান হারানোর ভয়ে বাস করছে। স্থানীয়রা বলছেন, উপজেলার বাঁধে আশ্রয় নিয়ে আসা মানুষরা খোলাখুলি বসবাস করছে এবং পানির পানি ও খাদ্যের ঘাটতি ভোগ করছে।
ভারতে উচ্চভূমি থেকে নেমে আসা বন্যপ্রাণীরা সিলেট ও ​​সুনামগঞ্জ জেলার বেশিরভাগ নিচু এলাকাগুলিকে নষ্ট করেছে। সুরমা নদী বিপদ স্তরের উপরে শুকিয়ে গেছে, তবে চৌলি, পল্লী ও যদুকাত নদীগুলির পানির মাত্রা প্রতিদিন বাড়ছে। ভারতের মেঘালয় মহাসড়কে প্রচণ্ড বৃষ্টিপাত, পরিস্থিতি আরও খারাপ করছে। জেলাগুলিতে কমপক্ষে 18২ টি প্লাবিত স্কুল ও কলেজ বন্ধ করা হয়েছে।
