@@OutoftheWoods0623Personally, I would not like to have the open areas of the barn and lean-to facing the road. With all that open space, passersby can easily see what equipment is inside. That's just an invitation to thieves. I would build the wall facing the road, and the lean-to would face the property. However, that's just my opinion. The more privacy I have, the better.

I have been building a two story Barn building using my lumber and lumber from an Amish Sawmill (Hemlock). It’s footprint is 26ft by 36ft. I figure I have about 26 thousand wrapped up in it so far. I’m pretty happy with that. I’m getting old (70 come Christmas Day after). I’m having to hire some of the work out now so the price is about to jump a bit. Great looking building you got there.

Nice looking pole barn and I think it was a great price. My pole barn is only 20 x 40 ft and I put down a layer of 2A rock for the floor. That's fine for parking my Kubota tractor and a zero turn mower but I can see that a sawmill would need a concrete surface for cleaning and maybe even for stability for the sawmill. Your new house is quite the looker and the clocks are a neat addition. Bruno is doing great as a new driver--he's doing better than I did at his age!

With barn concrete plus some driveway concrete, site prep and 200A new electrical service/panel install...I was right at $47k in NW Ohio in spring of 2023. Surprised they're using solid posts. Most are using 3 layers of laminated 2x6 with treated lumber on the lower 1/3rd of the beam (ground end).

I agree with you that cement is better. You are mitigating the water, but during the winter, do you have the ground freeze and lift. Cement would take care of that. In the 80"s I used to help a friend get alfalfa out of George, Washington for his dairy cows. We went to one farmer's property several times, and he had 1 to 1 1/2-inch crushed gravel in his equipment barn. He liked it, and the gravel seemed to lay flat even with large equipment rolling over it. He also had the cleanest farm we had ever been to. Not a drop of spilled grease, or oil was on the gravel.

I have distant cousin that was the long time curator of the American Clock and Watch Museum in Bristol Connecticut. He’s been studying clocks since 1959. Like I said he’s a distant cousin and only know of him through a family lineage that he compiled to another very distant relative. I contacted the museum and they forwarded a message to Chris. So, they may be able to help Bruno with any clock questions. I thought that this may be some assistance in Bruno’s education of clocks. Take care and God bless!
