You guys don't understand how much a breath of fresh air is to see this reaction. Monster is an underrated gem. This anime doesn't seem to be well known and there is barely any reactions to this anime on youtube. Monster is up there with animes like Death Note. The antagonist is one of the most interesting character in all of anime.

This anime is a masterpiece. It's totally psychological, normal humans, no superpowers. But the symbolism of the "nameless monster" and the way it's executed- it makes you rethink many things in the whole show. It has one of the best antagonists too

Holy crap!!! I haven't seen anyone on YT react to anything from Monster since Semblance of Sanity. The anime is close to 20 years old now and often forgotten. I watched it about a year ago and it's honestly in my top 15 anime all time. If you love a good suspense thriller then this is the anime for you.

I just started Monster a week ago. I'm on episode 19 so far and I'm already putting Monster in my top 5 animes. Ridiculous writing. Can't believe how tight the dialogue and timing of events are from chapter to chapter. Mind-blowing.

im only on episode 13 but im so easily pulled in by this show. i dont think it could be live action either, live action couldnt pull off a vibe like this, and live action never felt as real as this either monster is very realistic. from the way it writes its characters, to the way not everyone is a pretty anime person and theres a lot of more realistic face shapes and body types, and the color palette. it feels like those rare moments where you're outside, or maybe laying down at night, and just. contemplating the reality of life. how bleak it can be, but also how beautiful, and just the uncaring and enigmatic reality of this world and the humanity it houses it uses the animation to its advantage, making it feel real in an artistic way that isnt often seen in live action. i think animation has a big advantage over live action, especially as an artist myself. i can draw a picture, make it pretty realistic, but then id be no better than a printer. if i make it my own, change it in some way, exaggerate things and refine others, every piece of this drawing is in my control and i can choose what message i want to convey to others. you can't do that with a picture or a recording, you cant make thin lines and bleak colors while choosing exactly what style, music, everything that you need to throw away the other unnessecary details and make a clear animation that will evoke any feeling you want. you could never get johan's terrifying beauty and calmness on an actor, and the way johan looks so friendly but you can tell its off, especially when you put him next to the true kindness shown in tenma's design its hard to explain it, but i tried. you have to really understand what goes into art, the things they teach you, just how hard we artists work to use exactly what we need to put our ideas onto a piece of paper and hope it means something to someone. i hope i could give you an idea of how much i like this anime and how much i love the fact that its an animation that feels more real than live action

@@taiter570 You should read Pluto too. My favorite work of Urasawa. I love how he turn a renown franchise like Astro Boy and turn it into his style in term of writing perspective. It also not that long with only around 60 chapter and 8 volume. But it definitely pack with a punch. If Masao Maruyama (Monster Anime Producer and Ex Madhouse President) still alive for another couple of years, we might even see Pluto anime adaptation.

20th Century Boys, this mangaka's magnum opus, is my favorite manga of all time. Too bad Monster is his only work that got an anime, but it is still very recommended. (for seinen (= grown-up anime) fans)
