I remember when i was 11 years old playing Tri as my first MH game and began to think i had finally made it to the end of the game until i saw the quest to Alatreon. "Where Gods Fear to Tread" is what i think it was called and i remember just being in awe witnessing what i was up against and being incredibly intimidated by the theme. I think i was too afraid to fight him and didn't try until MHP3 where i learned to use a punishing draw GS build against him, haven't fought him legitimately since then

I mean, most of these themes come from handhelds, 2 console generations back, or the Wii. Personally, I love Teostra's new version, and while Glavenus' seems off, it fits so well with his acidic sub-specie.

Yeah a couple of a returning monsters themes are alright, probably as the composers already had the originals to go off e.g. Zinogre I think is very good perhaps even an improvement, and Rajang’s is really strong during certain parts of it, but for me personally I think Teostra and Nargacuga and Brachy’s remastered themes were a big letdown. And don’t even get me started on the locale themes, I mean, they aren’t even themes. But the trouble is I compare to MH3U which was just fantastic in the music department (looking at you Tundra theme) and to be fair it’s going to be difficult to compete with that but World is really the first game where I’ve actually thought the music was bad. Even though the others aren’t as good as 3U they’re still excellent in their own right.

Also, although he wasn’t in 4u i loved using his armor set for the looks and release skill for the iodrome switch axe, that was pretty much my most used weapon in the end game because of that.

oof iceblight makes your stamina depletes faster, it doesn't slow down the recovery of it, that's what water blight does. In the game where Alatreon first appeared (MHTri), Dragonblight actually lowered your affinity, which would've been cool to have mentionend. Great Monster Feature video anyways!^^

Thiago Santos Meh, most of them I’d just deal with till they wore off. Dragon Blight seriously affected your DPS, so it had to go right away. Stamina was managed with Mega Dash Juice or other stamina managers, Electric Blight just meant I didn’t want to get hit and played a little more conservatively (or more likely counted on someone wacking me out of it), and fireblight was just a few rolls to address. The other advantage those berries had was it gave you a slight buff to your defense for that particular element as well, but with better armor that was less of an issue.

Since MH3 was my first MH ever, Alatreon has a special place in my heart. I remember failing this quest soooooooooooo often! But that one hunt was so incredible. I used to play Lance in MH3 against this beast and after half an hour I did a uplifting charge thrust attack while Alatreon started to fly upwards, and it got killed! Alatreon fell epicly down and died. It was one of my greatest moments in MH ever :D After that I farmed the Jhen Moran Armor set and started to Clust the sh** out of it xD

Loved Alatreon, been calling it all year that alatreon would be one of the later monsters released. As much as generations is a celebration of the series, I feel that it’s important that world gets its loving from the old monsters so that they can evolve with the series. It's difficult to be as methodical in 5th gen when it's become less methodical as a game compared to previous MH's. In Tri my strategy along with other like minded players was to sleep bomb for those Skypiercers. Never bothered speedrunning it though.

Nergi is very aggressive yes, but this doesn’t hold a cake nor candle to the calamity of Ala. around 10 years ago roughly I first encountered this black dragon menace. “Where Gods Fear To Tread” no new hunters will understand. Neither will they when I say we had an event ala that was nearly twice the size (I think) and yielded better rewards but was much harder. But maaaann I miss the gigantic pickle quest “World Eater” so much fun.

I must give credit to CAPCOM for his design/character and most importantly his characteristics. Not looking at in game fights. His main characteristic is he is immortal and cannot be killed. That being is asexual so it can be he or she. He does NOT materialise any elements like Teo/Luna/Daora/Vaal/Ala/Kirin, etc. do. Might be because of his immense anti-elder dragon aura he needs to maintain constantly. It is also a being constantly evolving judging how much he changed from regular Nergi to Ruiner. Quite a feat. What if he continues to grow in power? I still think Nergi wouldn't pick a fight he cannot win. Admiral also said that he is the only environment call for natural disasters, so there is that I guess? ;)

I think Nergigante and Alatreon would probably fight to a standstill (lorewise, anyways). Alatreon has significantly more raw power, so Nergi would take way more punishment and probably be unable to really get in significant hits on Alatreon, but Nergigante's absurd regenerative abilities would keep Alatreon from being able to finish him off. That said, Nergi would probably take pains to avoid a confrontation with Alatreon, because Alatreon's absurd destructive potential might mean Nergi would spend more energy regenerating from a fight than he would gain eating Alatreon.

@@Thesaurus_Rex I'm pretty sure it's a stomp. The only thing keeping Nergi from dying is his absurd regen. He lacks the offensive potential to take down the Blazing Black Dragon, the speed to keep up with him, and the defense to take many attacks from him. Sure, Alatreon can't kill Nergigante, but Nergigante will still get absolutely torn to shreds by a much stronger, faster, and more brutal opponent than he has ever faced before. He could probably fight Shara to some degree. But Shara is fodder to something like Alatreon.

It was harder in Tri imo, though that might be because it was my first game. The gear you had when you first fought it probably wasn't good enough, and your element options felt super limited because there were few monsters in the game; I remember I didn't even have a proper dragon weapon when I first fought it, the closest I could get was a dragon phial switch axe. It took me eleven tries to beat it, the last time when I finally did it was with three French hunters all HR 200+, and two of them died. So they had maxed-out endgame gear and still got carted. People got kicked from lobbies all the time. Out of my friend group of several people who played the game, I was one of only two to beat Alatreon and the only one to farm all its gear, the others all gave up playing. Alatreon has always been a very special monster for me.

Kevin Shadow It is and it isn’t. It is considered a spinoff in gameplay terms, with it’s deviants, styles, just in general the over the top action style, in contrast to the series’ usual semi-grounded gameplay style as seen in 4U and World, so his point remains true. But they still acknowledge it as canon in the mainline games, less like stories or frontier, more like the 4th gen’s equivalent to a portable title (even before Glavenus came to Iceborne, base World made references to the town of Bherna and Astalos).

It was my first so to say endboss in my Monster Hunter experience and the first monster I'd call my nemesis. i think soloing g-rank alatreon in mh3u for the first time was probably one of my greatest achievements. it felt so hard, i had spent so many hours trying and dying... it took me literally weeks to slay him. i can remember the shivers I got when he fell down dead on the ground of the Sacred Land. thank you mh3u for being my first monster hunter and making me fall in love with this series

Thank you Gaijin. I lost it when I saw the trailer for him. I remember having nightmares of this thing. First meeting him in tri with only ceadeus armor and getting ripped in half while some high rankers took me with them to fight it. Dreading it in MH3U then mastering it in mhGen which then made me go back and fight it and master it in 3U more and more until it was another slay every day of the week until I got his full set and greatsword. The original greatest elder challenge that pressed you the whole fight and never lets you go. Before lunastra was a nightmare there was this beast here. The vet chiller, noob Slayer, and game ender. Alatreon. Praise him, fear him, know his unstable wrath and bear the weight if your transgressions against him if simply having a pulse in his presence.

Though you are more agile in Gen, Alatreon is still a threat in both Gen and GU! I swear, Whenever I solo-hunted Alatreon in Gen, I was focused on this beast for the next 15-20min! I forgot everything around me and took care not to be hit by it - even more so since I played gunner weapons in Gen's end game. Alatreon is a test of your skill in any imaginable way and I'm glad more hunters have now the chance to push themselves to their limit without going back to older titles. Alatreon... In Tri, Alatreon was a legitimate nightmare and a half to fight, half because of how fast, powerful, and frantic his battle was, and half because the Wii's online was just as unstable as the dragon itself. In Tri, he never taunted, his head stayed low for a split second after a fireball, and when KO'd, his head would flail wildly from side to side, so trying to break the horns without either paralyzing him or getting his horns stuck in a wall was nigh impossible. His tail was also a hitbox after a rush, so even if you avoided the rush itself, his tail would still slap you and send you flying. If you did enough damage to his head after he did his "preparing for flight mode" animation, you could knock him out of that mode and keep him in his grounded state, and lastly, his thunder slaps caused plumes of molten lava to geyser up, so even if you avoided the slap itself, you could still die from the follow up lava burst. in Portable 3rd, Alatreon was nerfed significantly. While his thunder moveset was expanded upon and he gained thunder moves if grounded in flight mode, he now taunted far more, his tail hitbox was removed, and he could enter flight mode at any time, and the recovery frames on his fireball attack were increased. His leapback slam was slowed down, and the removal of dragon blight made him far less dangerous on the ground. 3U kept most of these changes, but gave him back his dragon blight, added even more moves, and made his horns infamously durable. He also flails far less frantically when KO'd. He could also no longer be tripped when his claws broke. Generations largely kept the changes from P3rd and 3U the same, but returned his ability to be tripped and decreased the health of his horns. Alatreon also could no longer be flashed out of the sky when enraged, and his flight mechanics were altered so that 90% of the time when Alatreon becomes enraged, he would enter flight mode. His rage was also shortened in duration, and several of his moves slowed down to have better counterplay. The unique head stagger animation when knocked out of flight mode has been removed completely, though he can still do the "entering flight mode" taunt on rare occasions. His status resistances and elemental resistances have been greatly increased, and when mounted, Alatreon becomes the hardest monster in the game to complete a mount on, sometimes thrashing three times in a row. In Gen Ultimate, the mount was made easier to complete, and the hardest mount was shifted to Fatalis if one neglects to wear earplugs. I love Alatreon! Tri was the first MH game I played on my own, so it was always exciting to face it. Seeing it in World has me hyped, and I loved the way it moved in the trailer. Looked like it could barely control its own power

Oh the memories with Alatreon. So many carts, so many failures. Rough times, but besides Alatreon and Jhen Mohran, I can't think of any other monsters that actually required teamwork and coordination. I remember it was the first monster where I learned sleep bombing, and keep in mind, there were only 2 sleep melee weapons in the entire game! the Baggi lance and sns. The strategy was usually, 2 gun, 2 melee (preferably either of those 2 sleep weapons), and everyone brought backup supplies for the gunners. the coordination was so much fun. My biggest regret with Tri is that I was never able to finish the Alatreon armor, I was just missing 1 skypiercer for the helmet. To this day, Tri is still my first and favorite MH, mostly due to the atmosphere, and I'm so sad that the servers are shut down now and we can't experience Alatreon, Jhen Mohran, or Deviljho in their original forms. I know 3U exists, and I put just as much time into that as I did Tri, but something about it just feels different. Enough of my rambling for now, great video GH! Looking forward to what you do next!

I whole heartedly agree. Except I only got a small handful of Skypiercers and I loved rocking the full set back then. I never used it often because I couldn’t incorporate a decent build with it, but usually used it to show off~ and to sometimes rock the elemental jho LS (P) when I felt like not running full Jho set for Purple and just wanted to use Dragon element. Sometimes I’m still tempted to bust out the old Wii and play but... village low rank is so small and boring :/ and Cha-Cha gets on my nerves. Always had.

You really hit the nail saying Ala demands so much from you in order to take it down. In 3rd gen, you really needed to know what you were doing and strategize your approach. I guess that's why I really like fighting Alatreon, hope the revamp everything in Iceborne and make it *the* most difficult fight, and make its gear amazing

One of my favorite memories from 3U was from Alatreon. I was using the kelbi slime bow and gigginox armor to blow it up, making me very weak to fire. It slammed the ground and created a fire geyser far behind me, then my teammate cut off its tail, and it flinched forward and shoved me into the geyser, carting me instantly.

Fatalis has a good chance to get into Iceborne, considering that slick HD model they showed off in the size comparison video. It's unlikely that they went to the trouble of making something that intricate just for two seconds of screen time.

Watch as they add in a single sneaky move that inflicts waterblight, just so Alatreon has all 5 elements (if I remember right, it supposedly does, but its instability prevents it from using them all at once. Also waterblight was already VERY prevalent in Tri while simultaneously not very disruptive, so they probably didn't want to overdo it that much).

I hope that the new World version of Alatreon's theme changes notes depending on what mode it's in(Similar to going from mounting theme when you mount the monster), so that you can not only see, but also hear it's changing element.

Judging from this video, Alatreon sounds to me like it's gonna be one of those monsters I hunt once and have to take a break from hunting to collect myself before doing so again, though I am a bit concerned I might hate it due to it sounding like it could potentially be too much of a hassle to deal with.

Kind of, but not really. Your adrenaline will pump you up throughout the hunt. You don't want to take a break from it, you want to experience this rush again and again! Alatreon is a drug!

I hunted Alatreon in MH3g. You cannot lose focus. I wanted to get its set so bad that I did about 50 hunts before knowing that you need to break both of its horns in order to get the freaking skypiercer. I felt great when I had to show it to my envious friends. Good old days. I used Island of the Gods

Monster Hunter Tri was the first game in the series I ever played, so Alatreon will always hold a special place in my heart. While I could never beat him in Tri, mainly because I couldn't find people to fight him and honestly I wasnt that great of a hunter back then, I was finally able to solo him in his next appearance, after considerable trial and error. The thing that makes him a challenge for me was the sheer amount of elemental damage he can do. It was impossible for me to account for everything and still have enough damage to down him. So there was always one element I was vulnerable to. Which in this thing's case, would mean a 1-shot. The fact that I couldn't account for everything and Alatreon's sheer size and power made him an extremely challenging fight and one hell of a ride from start to finish. It's been a while since then. I've become a much better hunter since those days. But seeing this thing on the horizon... there are some struggles you dont forget.

Kept thinking the chest could break to reveal some sort of color-changing core. Something about its shape really felt like that could snap right off. Never knew about the mythos of the reverse scale! That's really cool, actually, that Alatreon's weird shape is due to being coated in the things.

I remember when I first fought alatreon back in The 3rd generation in MH3U when I was a kid sense mh3tri was my first monster hunter game. Jesus nostalgia was real...I didn't beat it tho. And when I got mh3u years ago when I was still a young kid back then and when i fought alatreon maaaan he was the toughest insane monster you'd ever fight back in the 3rd generation. And when i defeated it with other people I loved this fight and that monster. But In generations including MHGenU his powerful fight was kinda toned down to make it easier but I still enjoyed the fight when I fought him ! And now that Alatreon is finally here in iceborne I'm very excited to see how tough and insane it's fight is gonna be like in iceborne just like in the 3rd generation.

Alatreon is one of the few monsters I've never fought, together with Amatsu, the tri and 3U exclusives Ahtal Ka and Valstrax (granted the last two are because I didn't play much GU and the others because I couldn't play tri or 3U), but I'm still exited to fight him, thise new moves In the trailer look really nice.

MH Tri was my first monster hunter game I played, but I didn't make it to Ceadeus, and in MH3U I gave up half way through high rank, so I've only seen Alatreon on KZbin videos of other people fighting it. MH World + Iceborne is really the first game where I have reached "endgame" and I'm very excited to finally experience his fight myself :D
