If Coraline is the scariest kids movie ever made, then this most def the creepiest... I dunno how they got away with a PG-rating after that twist with nebbercracker's wife at the end 😭😭

You can get away with killing characters off in kids' stories if you don't actually SHOW them dying.

It was supposed to be a higher rating (hence the story being as creepy as it is.) and as a result would have been able to use coarser language. For example: instead of "You pee in bottles?!" It was going to be "You piss in bottles?!" If you watch Chowder's mouth during the scene, he is still animated to say piss.

This movie is criminally underrated, used to watch it on Cartoon Network all the time as a kid. It aged pretty well too with its animation.

22:44 if you think about it, Constance and Nebercracker are actually hugely tragic characters. Constance probably had PTSD from being constantly attacked and objectified at the circus, and those kids throwing eggs/rocks at her could've triggered her into a fit of hysterical rage, which caused her death. And Nebercracker probably wanted children, wanted a family, but Constance's hatred of children (whom she blames for her death) made him scare everybody away. Nebercracker chased everybody away for THEIR protection, and he was ostracized for it. Their love was short-lived, long-suffered, and fully tragic.

Fun Facts on Monster House: • Monster House takes place in 1983. •As of 2018, this is the only motion capture film to feature an entirely original story and not be based on existing source material. • Chowders's line "DJ, you piss in bottles?" had to be re-dubbed "...you pee in bottles?" to help maintain a PG rating. You can still see Chowders's lips speak the original line. • The tricycle scene at the beginning of the movie is a homage to Stanley Kubrick's film rendition of Stephen King's The Shining (1980). • In the original screenplay, DJ and Chowder are harassed by two bullies named Ryan and Cameron who get eaten after DJ purposely lures them to the house as bait. The two characters were removed from the screenplay because the studio thought their death was far too dark, and that the bullies combined with DJ's cruel babysitter, babysitter's boyfriend, and Nebbercracker all made the film seem much more cruel. • Three super soakers are used by the kids when inside the house and two of them actually don't exist. Only DJ's water gun exists and it was not invented until 1993. • the shadow that reaches out to grab DJ is foreshadowing that the house is Constance

I remember watching this all the time as a kid and used to creep me out. One halloween was tempted to do a monster house out of a giant cardboard box as a child since it was one of our first kids horror movie that we enjoyed watching since we also loved old abandoned houses since we would read alot of books and ghost stories as a kid
