to answer some things you brought up: lance can indeed cut tails, it does cutting damage like the swords. the lance class has a gimmick where it always uses the best meatzone value, cutting or blunt, of whatever it hits (this might be why some call it "pierce" type?). This is a large part of why Lance is the strongest melee class in 1st gen lategame. Dual blades upgrade out of the SnS tree because the DB class wasn't in the JP release - one of the many additions and changes to the US release. this idea of one class branching into another is kept through MH2 where all melee classes get their own subclass (gs -> ls, hammer -> hh, lance -> gunlance) and then portable 2nd/freedom 2 splits them all apart. whetstones restore 100 hits of sharpness, the mini versions only 50 hits green sharpness is definitely designed to be the high rank/lategame boon stuff like white sharp is in later games; green sharp removes the damage penalty (which goes up to 50%) from poorly timing your attacks which affects your damage output just as much as the base sharpness multiplier. fun fact, this attack timing mechanic is still present in yellow and below all the way through Rise! (though practically irrelevant now due to sharp creep, lol) enjoyed the video! signed, one of the mh1 server devs

Pro tip. When doing the first egg gathering quest, wait at the exit to the cave for about 3 minutes. Rathalos will fly in through the top of the cave, and when he does, book it. This will give you enough extra time in area 2 to where you can navigate the velociprey and rathalos won't show up until you're basically at the exit anyway.

the weird part of "Dual Blade upgrade from SnS" is becuz when they first released the MH in Japan, there was only 6 weapon. Later when the game is really made it great out there, they released another version with some upgrade including Dual Blade and called it Monster Hunter G (with G-rand monster added, somehow it's called Master rank now). When I play MH for the 1st time, it's only Japanese and Capcom had no intention of a Eng Version yet.

As for making a series like that, I'll try to do something like that in the future. I just want to finish some videos (that have been a pain in the ass for no reason to make) first. The next video is going to be a comparison between MH1 controls and MHW btw ;)

I remember when i had this game on ps2, i had this game and like 10 more only for a really long time, i remember that this was a game that surprised me from the beggining cause it was hard, it was more " real " cause i used to play games like final fantasy or games from tales saga. i remember really having to learn in this game, it wasnt just trial and error, some nights i would just chill and grind the easy stuff for be prepared for hunting the next day. i remember that i started with the velociprey armor, then went into cephalos armor ( yes i farmed cephalos ) but i never use much sonic bomb, i remember that i discoved that they had some pattern while swimming on the sand, so i would have my velocidrome big sword, and i would stay still near the entrance and just time when the cephalos would pass near, go foward and draw attack and hit them in the back, the 3rd or 4rd hit they would come out and then i would kill them, and that was literally a whole day just to get 1 set of armor. i found so funny now that i had that patience back then, and now playing world or rise, if i dont get a full set of an armor in 5 hunts i get pissed and quit for some time lol

@AsteriaMH5 ай бұрын
Yes, as I mentioned around the 39:41 mark, you can unlock the last quests to get the real ending. However, the point of this video is to show people what the first Monster Hunter game looked and felt like, and to complete most of the quests. I might get the real ending at a later date though.

Great video! Only correction I have is for the Monoblos fight After you knock Monoblos down, its best to attack the meat of the tail, but not the tip. The fleshy parts of the tail have like 80-100% hitzone to slashing. You can cut a monoblos tail in just a couple hits with a greatsword and still exploit the super tender zone.

Hitting Cephadrome with a Sm Barrel Bomb has the same effect as hitting it with a Sonic Bomb. You still have to know where the monster stops when he's swimming, but it's not too bad once you see the pattern.

Always enjoy seeing more PS2 MonHun content, will be cool to maybe see you in Minegarde! The playback for the monsters especially I always like hearing about. Cephalos/drome is always the funniest to me, since sm bombs or just a draw slash/superpound works just as well if not better to get past these guys and honestly makes it really fun in my opinion. The JP version also actually has some missing quests, such as the Gypceros so in that version you have to deal with him more earlier than the International version, but the variety of version differences does make it not as bad as it sounds. I do hope you'll check out Dos as well! I think PS2 monhuns are very special games and still probably the most unique experiences I've had in this series in my opinion.
@AsteriaMH5 ай бұрын
Hopefully in the future I'll have time to rank up in Minegarde! I'm working on a video about the major differences between MH1 and the latest generation of Monster Hunter games (comparing MH1 to MHW), so I really don't know when I'll be able to make a video about MH1JP. I might do a tutorial video on how to play MH1JP online in the future though! I've played MH1JP a bit with a friend of mine and it was absolutely fascinating to me. Especially because Kirin is in the game. I still haven't slayed it though. Kirin's one of my favorite monsters in the series and it actually surprised me that he's been in MH since the beginning. It blew my mind honestly. I don't hate Cephadrome because hate is a strong word, but I'm not a fan of him, let's just say that haha. I learned about the sm bomb strat later on after editing and exporting the video haha. But yeah, just like in mhfu, I just draw slash them when I can catch them as well. I'll check out the offline quests of the JP version then, definitely! PS2 MH games are really interesting and can be fun most of the time, when you're not delivering eggs... But playing through MH1 was a really cool experience for sure! I'm gonna play Dos one day, definitely! Anyway, thank you for commenting and watching the video! It was fun talking to you, have a nice day!

Why not 3 Ultimate? I know Tri has some differences from its updated version, but in my opinion I think most people would be better served going with 3 Ultimate simply because it has most of Tri's content and more. Also Generations Ultimate is worth shouting out too. It might debatably not be considered an old-school title, but I think it's a good one to play as a "greatest hits" remix compilation of the old games.

It irks me every time when people talk about how the newest game sold the most. Are you purposefully trying to be disingenuous or do you genuinely not understand how markets and sales figures work. Monster hunter 1 sold on a singular console in the early internet days before youtube was even created. MH World sold on every major platform, in the biggest market ever seen with the highest advertising budget yet. Its like going "mcdonalds sold more food than the local hotdog stand" , no shit it did, that metric alone tells us literally nothing.

i feel bad being a hater, but the crowd that started playing around mh4u and especially world have made the community go from humble and cozy to extremely annoying. as someone who has been playing since freedom, people wear their entry point as some sort of badge. it's so tiresome.
@dima_keller5 ай бұрын
All those "hard", "hardcore", "doesn't hold your hand" are basically a lie. This game is best describes as "waste of time" as it WILL waste your time on boring shit all the time, "bullshit" as game design is questionable at points, monsters are ridiculously bad and hitboxes are a joke, ask Plesioth and the last one is "jank" for more than obvious reasons. If you do want to experience geb 1 game play Freedom, it's the same bs, but at least with online stuff available offline, less time waste and more content (more than MH1)

different artistic vision. the og MH wasn't meant to be an action arcade game where you're some chosen hero slaughtering giant dragons. It was meant to be long, grindy and sometimes annoying. If u dont like it that's cool man, just offering some perspective

@@no-bark4112 I like prepping for hunts, but I don't like repeating same shit over and over to gather some money to buy pickaxe, fishing rods and capture nets, to farm for resources, hoping for generosity of RNG, just so I could attempt creating items I need I like when monsters are a real danger, but I don't like hit boxes far beyond enemy model and idiotic ai You can't call poor implementation a "different artistic vision" and everyone knows at this point they were just throwing stuff at the wall and looking for what sticks. @no-bark41123 ай бұрын
@@dima_keller the hitboxes are poor implementation. the grinding for mats and the chance-based crafting are not. That is a design choice. If you're not into it, then the older games simply weren't made for you. The modern games, where you never even have to craft a single thing to make it to high rank, are probably more your speed.
