Fun Fact: During the 2012 racing Finals, believe it or not, Tom was running on a broken truck. In the shot on the tv airing of him going through thunder alley, you can see the rear shift over quite badly. The issue was a Badly weakened shock on the right rear, which ended up breaking upon landing when he crossed the finish line against Damon.

In case anyone doesn't know, Tom's real name is Thomas William Meents. Also, Jim Koehler's real name is James David Koehler. Good job Monster Talk. Thanks for this. When I was 4 or 5 years old I got to meet Tom Meents when he introduced Maximum Destruction in 2003 and he did a special promo event in Minnesota before he did the February show there (I think it was February or was it January?). I still have the pic of him holding me up in his arm besides Max D and his autograph.

This was my favorite monster truck to watch when I was little I first saw Max D compete in 2007 at World Finals 8 when he Destroyed the rear axle he was the Lewis Hamilton Of Monster Jam winning darn near everything he ran in and he would not stop until either the truck wouldn’t go no more or the officials shut it down that’s what I loved about Meents and that whole entire team they went all out every event they were at

I think Tom used the second Goldberg for the first Max-D purely because it was a newer chassis that he was more comfortable with, and he had the first, older chassis still around in case of needing a backup or second truck for shows he couldn't make.

So Goldberg 2 became the flagship truck and Tom's preferred piece of equipment, hence why it became Max-D 1. When the team expanded, Tom used Goldberg 1 for Max-D 2 as it was the next best chassis he had. That's my guess, anyway.

Not gonna lie when I saw the redesigned bodies I FUCKING HATED THEM. The original was too perfect in my eyes to be fixed, let alone replaced. But as I’ve gotten older and seen newer trucks and newer bodies for older trucks these redesigned Max-D bodies got a spot soft in my heart.
