The well boss is a story of a japanese woman killed in her house by a burglar then he dumped her body down into the well. Every night, her spirit appears in the well and count all the coins she lost. That is why you see the well in the game counting.Edit: ok so i looked around and found that the most common version of this story is the spirit counting the broken plates instead. The story name is Banchai Sarayashiki

I was dicking around the ROM Hacking site once and found a neat fan translation of the Japanese prototype that makes direct references to the horror movies that the bosses parody (Like the plant saying "Feed me, Seymour!")

Strange part, the NES version is darker in it’s text, and the Famicom Prototype didn’t have the creepy horror music in the 1st stage when that tree changes

lol....was I like the only one that thought the minotaur was a goat when I was a kid?XD Esp. on the US title screen. I thought he was supposed to be some kind of angry forgotten paleolithic harvest god or something, and the cows were his livestock. He was actually my favorite too besides the "cat" , the rock star, the sleepy caterpillar, and the thing that blends into the walls in level 6.

Love this game, one of my top 5 NES games of all time. If you are so inclined check out the rom hack Monster Party Lets go Again that was released a while back, very well done and changed the game to make it almost a legit sequel.

But why are a well and tempura shrimp bosses
@Jarock3167 жыл бұрын
Both of them come from Japanese folklore. The well is from a story called Banchō Sarayashiki. The tempura is from a folklore that said tempura was the favorite food of Ieyasu Tokugawa, which said he killed himself by eating too much of it.

the fried food is a parody of "the fly" with the 2 teleporters in the background. get it? "the fry"
@Skycrusher5 жыл бұрын
The Well is a "Ringu/The RIng" reference to Samara. And yes, the 3 Fried foods is a parody of "The Fly" There are 2 transporter pods in the back ground. And you fight "The Fry"
@Assimandeli4 жыл бұрын
@@Skycrusher It's not a Ring reference, as I'm pretty sure the original book wasn't even written when the game came out. It's based on an old story that might have inspired Ring as well.

0:31 yo that just tripped me out, is that a man with a mask riding a horse that shoot syringes out his mouth while in the background the statue of liberty is in ruins symbolizing the end of freedom in the US and on top of that the guy saying "get him, then ill let you be my slave"
@DrEggdan3 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure it's supposed to reference Planet of the Apes. They rode around on horseback in the film and then there's the famous Statue of Liberty scene which I'd imagine is what the background is meant to be parodying.

That well spirit boss that counts to 10 in the prototype version... Is that a reference to Ten Little Indians?
@ciscovaiese75354 жыл бұрын
No it's to the japanese folklor about this japanese maid being drowned in the well. Because she didn't have ten plates she only counted 9.
