After watching this film, the fact that you are able to sympathize with a serial killer is a true testament on how great Charlize's performance was. Arguably, the greatest performance by an actress ever.

The sympathy here for this woman is chilling. She is a psychopath!! She robbed these men & executed them for the same reason all serial killers claim to: Power, rage, & financial gain. Yes, they solicited a hooker....but that does not give her the right to take their lives. Nor does the fact that she may have had a rough life. That would make her troubled, no doubt! I feel sorry for her on that regard. But NOT the rest. That was all her choice.

Montmasson She's making a cynical comment that life is shit, that there is no hope. All those uplifting phrases: "faith can move mountains", "where there's life, there's hope", "love will find a way".... all sugary-sweet bullshit to trick you into thinking there's a light at the end of the tunnel, to keep putting up with the hell that is life. There was no hope for her, no light, love didn't find her a way... ... and that's the reality for too many people.

Finally watched the movie tonight,even though I saw the 2003 documentary a few years ago. One thing I don't understand is why was she tried for the first murder. That was self-defense. She should only had been tried for 5(even though she should of got tried for the 7th victim).
@mhaze2108 жыл бұрын
+RckerMom87 I wondered the same too...but I hear in a more recent documentary, she admits (before execution) that ALL her victims were innocent. I dont know if she was just trying to make peace with God and asking for forgiveness and felt too much guilt? Or if the first victim did infact try to rape and kill her....only she knows really, her and God. She should have gotten Life in Prison...not the death penalty :(

A trial occurred for the death of the first victim, Richard Mallory, because she was accused. Aileen and her defense lawyers failed to prove a self defense theory and therefore was found guilty of murder. And yes, years later in an interview with Nick Broomfield, she did admit that not one of the murders were acts of self defense.
