You have not really lived in my opinion until you're fighting a Dipsy Rod out of a Dipsy holder!
@stvsanders6 жыл бұрын
How long of a leader in feet do you have between the dipsy diver and the dodger. Looked like around 10 feet.

19 pounds is pretty nice. You guys should take a trip here ( lake ontario) where 30+ pounders, some pushing 40lbs are swimming around!

Why the hell would they do that? Lake michigan is a better fishery

JB, Got home last night from our trip to the UP, to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The weather was much colder than in years past, I do not think we saw the temperature over 65 any day, and we fought wind and rainstorms every day. We had one good day smallmouth fishing where we caught around 50 or so. The water temperature was as high as 68.9 and as low as 64.8. We trolled for walleye when we could and managed to catch one 22 incher and a bunch of drum. I did get out for two days of stream trout fishing and did pretty good, between my son and I we caught 7 Brook Trout over 14 inches and a bunch of them from small to 8 or 9 inches. My son took his first UP shower when he stumbled over a log and filled his waders. Although the fishing was bad, it was still great to be home in Michigan for some much needed rest and relaxation. Now I have to get ready for the movers to pack up the house and head for Missouri. Steve

What is that fish shaped flasher with the string of hootchies behind it called? I live in WA state and have never seen a salmon set up like that but I would love to try it if it is a commercially available product.

That's called a "Spindoctor" made by Dreamweaver in Michigan. Super effective with a fly or squid behind it. I usually run an 18" to 20" leader to my fly. Order a few online. You won't be disappointed!

Nothing like a big king slamming a dipsy line. You guys don't put an elastic band on the wire though and loosen the drag? Surprising. 30 or 40lb wire?
@ConsummateSportsman10 жыл бұрын
30lb wire, and yeah we use a snubber. It goes behind the dipsey though, not on the wire.
@eturc7210 жыл бұрын
We hit Ontario for a week every year- with kings averaging in the mid to upper 20's- Even with the 9" snubbers- we put an elastic on the wire about 10" up from the reel and loop it on the handle. Allows us to open the drag a bit more so that when they hit- they can run and not be fighting the drag on the reel until we can get to the rod. Definitely increased our hookup rate.
@ConsummateSportsman10 жыл бұрын
eturc72 Ahh, gotcha. That makes sense. In 2011 we had real big kings like that here in MI, but haven't seen them that big since.

The Consummate Sportsman 20 lb king isn't anything to sneeze at. Just can't believe you guys use a 16 ft boat on the big lake
