Kameradoktorn is a great store, I regularly check their used section online and whenever I buy new gear, they're willing to price match and I much prefer to give my money to them over bigger stores. Very charming little place.

Excellent video. I got the first AF-S Nikkor 300mm AFS f/2.8 (w/o VR) very cheap (1000 GBP) some years ago and it's amazing. Ok, as an amateur I don't really need it, but I couldn't resist at this price.
@musiqueetmontagne2 ай бұрын
Yes, years ago I had the 200 f2, still my most favourite lens, the 300 f2.8 simply amazing, faultless with TC's too and for a short time the 200-400 f4, not so good. The 200 and 300 are simply magic but I got too old to lug them around. To younger people, now that they are relatively cheap, absolutely give them a go, from portraiture to landscape to sports you name it, the quality and speed will blow your mind. You can tell I miss them.😊

I think it’s going to be popular when people looking for a fast 300mm realize they can buy it and a camera body for half the price of a mirrorless alternative. So instead of bringing a lens and a rear cap they simply bring another camera. It’s already a popular approach among sports shooters.

I know someone who used this lens for weddings and now uses it with a 2x teleconverter for wildlife photography, the image quality seems very similar to my Sony 200-600mm if not sharper! That's with the 2x converter which shows how sharp the bare lens is, not many lenses can take a 2x converter well
@gearreallydoesntmatter7 ай бұрын
It would have been super fun to test it with a converter.

Though not quite as fast nor as long but a lot more affordable, I really love the Leica 250mm F4 Telyt-R lens! I've gotten deep into the Leica L system and this lens adapts easily to it. I use it both on the SL2-S and the TL2 for a bit longer reach. The quality is unbelievable! I took it with me to a vintage race car weekend and the results were amazing. No need for autofocus. It brought back memories of my youth going to F1 and IMSA races.

Fascinating. I’ve had a D850 almost since its launch as one of my main cameras and I’ve had that Tamron G2 70-200 f2.8 since it came out. Both still perform flawlessly. I always lusted after that 300mm f2.8 for all the reasons you identified and as a wildlife photographer I could almost “justify it”. I do however have the 300mm f4 PF (it’s no 300mm f2.8 but still a capable performer). Always nice to see MB on my You Tube feed. Thanks.

I bought a batch of samsung cameras last year. The mini was fun but now the kit lens goes back and forth. I think the lens is done. The nx1 I have does not charge. Hopefully it's the battery but I don't think so. Nx20 and 30 and galaxy still work great. Any recommendations for the Samsung mini adapter and lens? I'm thinking m42 is the easiest.

Are you gonna give Nikon Zf a try?
@gearreallydoesntmatter7 ай бұрын
Perhaps. Since I’ve had the Z Fc I pretty much know what to except. Best and fastest control layout of any mirrorless camera 📸
@shlawchablaas6 ай бұрын
@@gearreallydoesntmatteryou might be surprised by the weight of the Zf. I had the Zfc first and though not huge the Zf is a lot chunkier, and somebody needs to make a better grip for it (so far, Smallrig and JJC are a bit small and don’t balance quite right IMO). The controls are awesome though and it works very nicely with Z lenses, but even better with vintage primes, where you’re gripping with two hands anyway. Just my thoughts… I often use it with a Sigma 120-300mm 2.8 or a Tamron 300mm 2.8 adaptall, not quite as nice as the VR Nikkor you tested but great bargains too.

How well would this lens do on the D500?
@ditto19587 ай бұрын
I imagine it would work just fine, but it might be a waste of money on an APS-C camera.
@Juventinos7 ай бұрын
@@ditto1958you have to be joking. the D500 is a beast of a camera. It's a d850 cropped in. a baby D5. I had the privilege of shooting F1 at Monza, I don't shoot nikon, but everyone who did on the grid had a pair of either D6,D5, Z9 prototype (didn't know it at the time), D850 and always a D500! Also a fuji x100 is aps-c, or X70.. or Richon GR. spectacular cameras. Look I shoot GFX mostly, should I look down on full frame and go.. don't waste your money on that. LMAO no!

Please talk more about DSLRs nailing focus unlike mirrorless. That is the exact opposite I keep hearing from the mirrorless mob.
@gearreallydoesntmatter7 ай бұрын
Both can do it. But a midrange DSLR reaches the performance of top tier mirrorless and have for years. They can of course cherry pick a feature like frog detection or whatever.. but in regular use it’s another story.
@jbp67597 ай бұрын
@@gearreallydoesntmatterhaha, frog detection. The analogy I always use is manual vs automatic transmission. Auto is easier, yes, and gives better performance for most people. But a good driver will get more out of a manual transmission, and have more fun doing it. I'm not sure that analogy is as good anymore as EVFs can do things OVFs simply can't (previewing an image in EVF in bright sunlight sure is handy). But personally I will use what I prefer even if it isn't "as good." I have this luxury because I'm not a wedding photographer, for example, where maybe people expect absolutely silent shutters now, I dunno. I can see pros wanting the "best" and I can see them preferring whatever makes the job easiest, because they are getting paid to do it.
@gearreallydoesntmatter7 ай бұрын
Pros first a foremost use what they have until it breaks down. That’s why DSLRs are still tugging along. The pro sports shooters I know often have one of each.
