This plant is so brilliant! The new leaves know their position in the plant. That’s why the younger leaves don’t have slits. And then the taller leaves know that’ll be over the small ones so that’s why they come out with more and more slits. Tge slits allow sun pass through the top leaves and reach the bottom leaves.
@ArtSchoolWithAlia4 жыл бұрын
Also your plant is okay! It’ll get so many more slits. I give mine liquid fertilizer every single watering so almost every day during warmer months and I’ve gotten four new leaves this month! I highly suggest “hasta gro plant” for liquid fertilizer.

Called a Fruit Salad plant because it actually produces an unusual edible fruit that tastes like a variety of other tropical fruits. Won't produce fruit indoors, but if adapted to outdoors and into a situation where it gets an unusually large amount of direct light it will produce a lot of fruit. The key is to transition it to more light if planning on growing outdoors AND you want fruit. Welcome!!

That leaf had less holes in it because it was from a different plant. You have quite a few different vines in there, and each vine will start getting splits on around the 5th leaf to grow. I have one with like 7 different vines in the pot. Each one got varying levels of fenestration on the 5th leaf

Thanks for the help. You say to not overwater, butbive ueard these can be used without any soil at all and placed into fish tanks with the roots permanently in the water and they grow nicely. What are your thoughts on this?
@GoodGrowing Жыл бұрын
this is because roots that grow in soil are different than those that grow in water. The ones in soil need air to grow so if you water too frequently you're basically drowning the plant. Water roots can just chill in water and grow
@PULAG Жыл бұрын
@@GoodGrowing do roots permanently in water also need air, though? I thought it fed from fish water's nitrates and stuff and it actually released oxygen into the water.

Possibly dumb question but I'm really new to plants. How do you suggest making sure it continues to get good drainage as an indoor plant once it gets huge? Do you just get a big catch plate with rocks so it doesn't soak in the water or do you have to take it outside to drain?
@GoodGrowing2 жыл бұрын
as long as you keep it in a pot with a hole at the bottom that lets water drain out when you water, you should be fine, regardless of size

False: The younger leaves don't have splits. Truth: The NEWER leaves grow the splits (if the plant is happy). The older leaves have no splits. They will remain at the bottom of the plant towards the base, shorter than the newer leaves that unfold with the splits in them!! You're welcome!! lol :)

If you live in the northern hemisphere, you've got plenty of time before winter for it to gain more strength and get settled. actually, the plant makes fenestrations to let the sunlight reach the leaves underneath haha, so if you give it more sun they will produce more fenestrations

Recommending pots is hard because it so much depends on your style and taste. But if you want to plant straight into it be sure to get one with drainage as they NEED that. If you plan to keep it in the nursery pot and put a decorative pot over, holes aren't necessary! Good luck! :)

@GoodGrowing5 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm... I'm not too sure why this would occur. My first thought would be maybe its not getting enough bring, indirect light? They need the light in order to get splits. If you DM me a picture on insta (@goodgrowing) I may be able to better help!

You can do if you want. The smaller older leaves will eventually yellow and die off when the plant no longer needs them to help produce energy. I personally leave mine until then

What about all the ugly plants? Who created those ones?

If I cut off a part of it to propagate will the mother plant still grow new leafs from that spot?
@GoodGrowing4 жыл бұрын
Typically, nothing will grow from the point you cut it, but slightly lower down a new growth point may form and start growing from there.

So I can’t put it directly by window window??? Just wondering because that’s where I wanted to put it in my room
@GoodGrowing4 жыл бұрын
You can but it depends on the light that window gets. If it gets all day full sun, i'd suggest putting up a sheer curtain or something like that to filter the light a bit. If it gets an hour or 2 of direct sun in the mornings or afternoons, it shouldn't be an issue.

i got mine today but what to do with those random roots?
@GoodGrowing3 жыл бұрын
Those are aerial roots that the plant uses to grow up trees in nature. They're not harmful. You can guide them to the soil to root further or chop them off if you don't like the way they look

I have a new monstera and its growing great (unreal to wake up and compare pictures from the morning before they grow fast!!) but there is 2 leaves & stems that seem to be dying - turning yellow/brown in color & no visual growth that i can tell. I was told to snip these off as they are taking more nutrients than giving. Is this true? If so, where on the stem do i snip?
@gyallington4 жыл бұрын
oh also.. would you recommend turning this plant often to prevent it from growing towards the sun and being limp? thanks so much if you see this, your video helped me so much!
@GoodGrowing4 жыл бұрын
Yeah they can be magnificent beings for sure! Hmm that's odd. Have you checked those leaves (and the rest of the plant) for pests? Snipping them off is probably the best thing to do, yeah. I'm not too sure where to snip though. I've snipped just the top of stem before in hopes that a new leaf could still emerge, none have yet. But you could cut just above the node I would think. Good luck!

I re-potted my cheese plant a few weeks ago and I put a layer of pebbles in the bottom of the pot but when I've gone to water it today the roots are coming through the drainage holes already. Should I remove the pebbles to prevent this or could the new pot I've used be too small??
@GoodGrowing3 жыл бұрын
Did you up the pot size when you repotted it? Monstera like to be pot up in 1 or even 2 size bigger as their roots can grow quite quickly!

Why do people keep saying the splits only happen to mature leaves? My new leaves that come up always unravel with splits
@GoodGrowing3 жыл бұрын
Mature means once the plant has matured not the leaf specifically. Baby monstera deliciosa plants don't have splits in their leaves, but as the whole plant gets older and grows more leaves, eventually they start coming in with splits

Hey girl! My monstera deliciosa has started to turn brown/black on the sides of the leaves. There is also some white powder on some of the leaves which I have never witnessed before with any of my other plants. Do you know the cause of this? Thanks
@GoodGrowing4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Oh no that doesn't sound good! Hmm the only time i've experienced browning like that with my monstera was when the leaves got burnt. Is your plant getting direct sunlight? As for the white powder it could be mineral deposits from the water you're using to water/mist/humidify with. Or it could be a sign of pests like mealy bugs. It's hard to know without pictures. You can DM me on insta and I may be able to better help!
@Robert_A_Keyboards49482 жыл бұрын
You cannot overwater the mighty Monstera, or surely it will indeed die from root rot! Let them almost dry out and make sure you have them in orchid/ bark soil mixture.
