I watched them after watching RWRB and while he's a great actor it's evident Henry is his best role so far. I read someone call Nick's previous movie Violet vital organs. And I refuse to refer to it otherwise. When it came out FB tried to persuade me it was worth a watch but luckily some brave souls on YT made their reactions to it before I could get to it and let me know this is a movie I should not be touching with a 10 foot pole. Purple Hearts is not a bad film no matter how much a small but vocal niche calls it out. It’s not much more flawed than RWRB in terms of one sided portrayal. Galitzine did a great job, and Luke and Cassie’s stuff are not much less/more superficial or movie tropey than Alex storming the castle in the rain or something. San Diego County where PH is set happens to be the place of one of the earliest school desegregation cases with Lemon Grove, and one of the oldest city supported Gay Pride parades nationally, but it’s also a huge military town, and all these cultures coexist. Sure the PH romance glosses over the hard facts, but RWRB is pretty saccharine too. Completely skipped showing conservative news vitriol or even the implications that the only reason Madame President cares about a UK deal is because her son is fucking a prince the way that Biden, for ex, will have to defend his position on Ukraine considering his son’s dealings there. I suspect that RWRB is a watershed moment in popular culture as Taylor and Nick basically took over for Julia Roberts as America’s sweethearts with their romcom, but neither of these movies are documentaries. In short, I don’t support the Purple Heart hate. It’s a movie and it’s not bad. RWRB has some spotty acting- as in it feels like high school drama production- in some parts, but Galitzine hits every mark in Purple Hearts, so acting wise, it’s not a bad job despite plot holes.
