Well I don’t prefer the tone, i wish they made it sound like it had more low end but with a good amount of mids. Something like the black album guitar tone
@EYOUTz1993
@EYOUTz1993 11 жыл бұрын
Just because you don't like scooped mids doesn't mean it's the wrong way to play. I also play with scooped mids, it's what I like. It fits both their styles. And they aren't demoing their skill, they're demoing the sound of the amp. If you're curious, Misha is a fantastic guitarist, you can check out Periphery's stuff if you don't know it already.

I've gotta say, the clean channel on this head is the best in this whole series, in my opinion. I know it's kind of pointless to talk about cleans, but when I'm buying a high gain amp, I don't just crank the gain and chug, but I look for the best clean sound as well, to give it versatility.

to all the people saying misha's amp sounds like crap,you have to understand that the guitar is a mid range and upper mid range instrument. in the mix the bass takes up the low mid and lows thats the sound you hear in your head, you hear the mix of two guitars and a bass. when playing live or recoeding live the bass needs to be taken out of the guitar which makes the guitar alone sound like crap,but in context it sounds absolutly massive

Yes because it's not a distortion pedal. It's not meant to be used as the only source of distortion. It's meant to add a little bit more drive and tighten up the sound.

@UncleJoey12 the ts9 notably pushes the mids, and tightens up the bass. A lot of people utilise tube overdrive pedals to pronounce the mids, and tighten up the lows. I use a ts9 for my lead, but everyone is different. One of my friends used to use a ts9 24/7 on his boogie.

@cynicown No. The Axe is a part of his recording set up. He uses a Diezel VH-4 for his rhythm guitars, as he said on his personal Facebook page. At gigs he does everything with the Axe, because it is far easier to handle in a live environment and it emulates basically every amp you can imagine at 90% of the quality of the original, without having a 20 kilograms of a guitar head with you. And by the way Misha uses an Axe FX 2 now....

In my opinion, high output pickups don't go well with high gain amplifiers. It's subjective of course, but I much prefer low/mid output pickups. I play a Fender Telecaster '72 Deluxe that has been modified, better, more solid 3-way switch, wiring, brass nut, Seymour Duncan/Bourns 500k pots, .22 Orange drops, Hipshot tuners and bridge and the biggest difference is the pickups. I swapped out the stock Fender Wide-Ranges (that aren't really Wide-Ranges...) for a set of custom made. bespoke and real Wide-Range 'Extra-Width' humbuckers from a British company called The Creamy. The bridge pickup is 11.7k and the neck is 10.4k. For me, they're ideal for low tuning (I use Drop B) and they allow me to have the whole gain structure of my Rockerverb 50 MKIII without sounding muddy and sloppy. The strings contribute too, I use Ernie Ball Cobalts 7 string set with the .10 removed, so it's .62, .52, .42 .30, .17 and .13... Point I'm making, you don't need high output pickups, 7 string or higher instruments to get the best high gain out of an amp.
@DomSchu
@DomSchu 8 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. But I like high and low output pickups, it just depends on the amp I'm playing through. High output pickups through my Recto sounds harsh and it takes some very careful tweaking to get a good rhythm sound, but then those same settings will sound awful for lead work. But low output pickups through a Recto sound incredible, heavy, tight, yet smooth and musical. Inversely, high output pickups sound amazing through lower-mid gain amps like a plexi or jcm800. Whereas low output pickups sound weak and puny through those amps without the volume cranked or a pedal in front.

that actually sounds pretty close to what you hear on most modern metal albums. You feel like guitars on those albums sound better because they are double-tracked, treated with a good amount of EQ and compression, and most importantly they are buried in the mix with kick/snare and bass

@metalmichew2 10 жыл бұрын
ola englund can't dial in a tone for shit. his tones are much worse then these. all that multi layer bullshit proves it, whenever he shows you his tone for that amp without the layers of gain and recording bullcrap it sounds really bad.
@SpencerMaxfield
@SpencerMaxfield 9 жыл бұрын
metalmichew2 You do realize that guitars on metal tracks have been at least doubled (I'm assuming by "multi layer" you mean more than one guitar track) for quite some time now, right? As in for the past 30-40 years. Your comment would seem to indicate you've never recorded or mixed anything yourself. A great sound in a room doesn't mean a whole lot if it sounds like garbage when mic'd up and put into a mix. In fact, a lot of tracks in a mix (not just guitars) sound sub par when solo'd. But they fit the mix as a whole very well. That's the end goal - a good mix. And Ola makes some heavy mixes that sound great.
@SpencerMaxfield
@SpencerMaxfield 9 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, if you prefer the sound of an open and clean mix there's nothing wrong with that. Whether a mix is good or bad is opinion to some degree. And I know lots of people who prefer that their record sound more like a live situation, which it sounds like you do as well, as opposed to a super perfect recording. I guess the point I was getting at is a good sound to a mix engineer and a good sound to a guitarist may not be the same. I play guitar and mix/produce. When I have my guitarist hat on, I like one sound, but when I put my mixing hat on, I don't care so much about what my guitar sounds like. What I care about is does it work in the mix and work for the song. That was my point about Ola's tone: he says himself he considers himself more of a writer than guitar player, and his main goal is to make good music/mixes. I think he succeeds at that. For what its worth, for years he's only used two rhythm tracks and only recently started doing four. So I don't think he is over-layering. Most of the thickness/fatness of his mixes come from the bass guitar.
@shredx81

@MrMesaDude Tube screamers have a very specific application. There are tones that you simply cannot reproduce without driving an amp's input signal. When you crank the gain on a preamp, it eventually breaks up & loses it's focus. The tube screamer drives the signal into the amp, allowing you to roll back on the preamp gain and retain your amp's natural clarity.

I use a delay pedal as well as some different types of different gain in order to find that balance, but i still cant get that remarkable solo tone that i want. Does anyone know if i should switch tubes maybe to like some El34s? Will that make the world of a difference for me? Or maybe i should Grab a pedal or 2?

4:11 Listen to the string definition of that chord, despite the intense amount of gain. That's what the Tubescreamer does to a Rectifier; tightens it up, and for lack of a better word 'cleans' it up! My own rig contains a Dual Rec with TS808 that comes on whenever the drive channels are engaged. Best drive sound I've ever had (and I've tried the whole Marshall, Orange and ENGL route).

All I hear in the comments is people bitching about Misha being a bad guitarist (of course that's explanatory considering that his own self project "bulb" started the band, got him prestigious tours, won numerous endorsements from 8+ companies including Ibanez, and even a chance to feature with petrucci on guitarworld magazine). @guitargod1598 Yup. Eddie left and took the 5150 trademark with him, so Peavey had to rename the amp. It was their company's fortieth anniversary--they started in 1965 and it was 2005--so they decided to use the years '65 and '05 as the new name. Oh, and the clean tone difference might be a biasing issue. Some 6505s are biased very cold.

@goldeneye122 According to many sources, Djent is indeed a style. What you might be getting at is that it is not recognized as a "genre" of music due to its small following. If the style picks up a large enough fan base, it can achieve its own music categorization as a "genre". Until then, it's just a "style" just as I said.

@Tonskiislegit Basically the Dual rectifier has the option of tube rectification, Bold/Spongy, and a switchable loop (2010 recto). The 50 watt difference actually has an effect on tone. 100 watts gives you more headroom so you can crank it a bit louder without breakup. The rectifier tubes add some sag to the sound...a bit more rounded i guess. I have a Roadster and I always use spongy and tube rectifiers. Look for a used dual recto. I've seen some go for as low as $800.

@UncleJoey12 pretty much. Sometimes an amp may have a muddy gain or a boomy/flabby bass so the TS9 can tighten that up no probs. It all depends on what you have, and about getting the right tone for you. Recto's are pretty boomy so it isnt a bad thing to try and tigthen up those lows, and push the front end a bit more. A lot of metal dudes do it (periphery, abr, white chapel etc)

I love the overdrive on the amp, sounds as good as anything out there, cleans sounded a bit dull though...dunno if its just a matter of tweaking to brighten them up or its the amp itself

@rigorhead01 wrong. Dimarzio Crunch Lab and Liquifier combo are actually fairly low output compared to EMGs, or Duncan Blackouts..oh and they are passive too.

The SM57 might be a very popular mic for recording guitar amps, however it is fairly colored. They should be using something more like a Royer ribbon mic to give a more transparent representation of the amp...

@butterknucklez I agree. If any of these amps, I'd be going with the Peavey 6534+ for my band.

@djworrall - I think the theory is that the main rail sags somewhat more with a valve rectifier at high load, which reduces the clipping threshold in the power section. So it's only going to make a difference when you are slamming the power section, which is only going to happen at stage volumes! Still, I suspect that the difference is subtle, and there's likely to be a bit of marketing shtick in there :)

Some of the best nasty tones on KZbin. So many people show this amp off and never get these dark tones.

@jaymzosborne111 He is playing metal like that because that's the style he plays. It's called Djent and he is one of the big pioneers in that movement. Playing Djent on guitar by yourself can sound somewhat goofy and random, but an entire band plays it and it's nothing short of epic. Search Periphery (his band) to see what I am talking about. BTW that guitar is a Bernie Rico Jr. custom. An extremely nice USA guitar.

I don't think this video was meant to showcase Misha or Ty's talent but simply to demo the tones of this amp. I ended up selling my dual rec after years of owning it because the tone wasn't satisfying enough to me.

I think the point of good tone is not to be original or impressive (which I think they are. All the guitar tones in Misha's songs he uploads to sound cloud sound killer) but he dials in a tone to what fits/makes sense in a song, which he is pretty fucking good at.

@balls86ful lol... You're completely missing the point. I don't play a seven string guitar either... but its good to see that these amp's can handle a tone that heavy... Misha Mansoor's an excellent guitarist, and him playing a 7 string really does just give the demo a little more diversity... it's not like he wasn't playing high end stuff either...
