The thing about Geralt is that yes fine he’s not some all powerful Elder Vampire or a Demon or anything like that, but he is one of the most powerful members of the species of Earth, both species before and after the conjunction. Geralt’s extra mutations made him faster, stronger and more durable yes, but it’s a lot more than that. Geralt’s overall Witcher school is also a big reason to his success, with the use of Signs and Blades in seamless combinations during combat. His extensive years of experience fighting the worst monsters a witcher could encounter and killing said monsters, and also the fact that he seems to be a favourite son type figure of Vesemir, the oldest living Witcher we’ve seen. Geralt is the most morally neutral of all of the witchers we have alive at the end of Witcher 3, but he is genuinely one of the most terrifying people to face in the world of the Witcher. He hunted and killed every ringleader of the Wild Hunt, he slaughtered a higher vampire, SURVIVED an attack from an Elder Vampire, successfully outwitted Gaunter O’Dimm, (who is widely speculated to be Satan or God) the reason Geralt is so famous is because he’s so fucking terrifying. He has all the tools necessary to kill realistically any enemy he comes across, and is a master of all of said tools. Yours is a good summary, and one that I'd agree with. Once a man performs one legendary feat, it becomes much more rational that he can perform another and another, hence Geralt is practically dauntless when facing any problem. To build on your points, one of the scariest things about messing with people in the real world is that they could very well have incredibly loyal and powerful friends that you simply don't realise. Geralt has all of that and more. Unless you catch him off guard and completely desperate, he'd most likely find the best option from among his friends/acquaintances/organisations to help him solve the problem properly. Witchers are renowned for getting pissy with people when they try and solve monster problems by themselves rather than consulting with a professional; Geralt most certainly would follow his own advice and consult the best of the best.

We dont know what the extra mutations did. It has never been mentioned we just know he has some. For all we know he might be just 1% better than a normal witcher or he might just be able to eat more foods, bleed less slowly, see a bit better, drink half a potion more and thats it. Also all of his feats you mentioned are in the games, where you are super op because its a game. In the books actual Geralt is not that much better than a trained fighter. He got smashed by Vilgefortz who didnt use any magic and fought whit an iron staff. Also Geralt suffered a bad injury that is hampering him for ever and slowing him down ( which is not shown in the games ). As cannon lore is concerned he is a bit better or same than a trained normal human top fighter. Succubi I would consider on the same thin line as trolls. He takes contracts and questions them and prefers not to fight. But if they are a threat he will. Generally succubi aren’t violent and don’t kill unless it’s a accident or self defense (I know people find Selma suspicious but when you kill her dandelion comments in the quest log saying that Geralt probably made a mistake or something like that) He states that he much prefers not to hunt kolbalds, godlings and such also fall under this category As for higher vampires, I believe that the best Geralt can do canonically in the books is like the first fight with Detlaff where he can hold his own for a bit but not win the fight. Also. You didn’t mention the unseen elder who legit can kill Geralt before Geralt sees him move. No way Geralt can kill a golden dragon either. Even with saskia I question it. He kinda had plot armor for that fight like he does Detlaff. Gorgons.. if they are Greek gorgons yeah I see why Geralt would want nothing to do with it While I don’t doubt Geralts skill. Most deep sea monsters are a hard no. If they are beached MAYBE he can pull it off (like the kayran) I also do not think that Geralt would EVER accept a contract on the crones or “she should knows” if she weren’t around (I know she is the tree spirit but the power level is very different) if the creature(s) is legendary in status or worshipped.. probably a hard pass if he doesn’t know what they are (lord of the wood ect he knows what they are so he would take the contracts.) Deities/legends like the lady of the lake would also fall under this category As for Djinns they are probably immortal anyway. I think, at least on the point of Higher Vampires, that part of the reason why Geralt, and many other witchers, would avoid hunting one of these creatures, is due to their sheer rarity. Not in the respect that fighting one, and succeeding in its defeat would lower their population- but because that rarity means they're incredibly adept at survival. These creatures, as stated by Regis in the game, came to the Continent via the Conjunction. Unlike the other monsters who came across, like giants, demons, shapeshifters and more, the vampires as a whole, including their lesser kin, only came across in the dozens or maybe a few hundred at most. Since that time, their numbers have not only dwindled due to the rise of humanity and the formation of the witcher schools, but because they had to maintain secrecy to prevent human uprisings. They had, at one time, enslaved entire human settlements and established a makeshift kingdom in Toussaint, but had to go underground because one of their kin caused the humans to revolt, which was by and large, inconvenient. That in mind, their species does not often reproduce, given that they are an indestructible, immortal species, who need to avoid detection. Therefore, most if not all of the vampires on the Continent or across the sea, are at least as ancient as Regis or the Conjunction. Vampires like the Hidden Elder, are even more ancient- perhaps millennia or more in age. That age comes with experience and skill- experience and skill that no witcher could match, because no witcher is old enough to have been around since the Conjunction of the Spheres, and no mage or elf besides those of the Aen Elle, would have been around at that time. When Geralt consults Regis about Detlaff, he fully understands that by comparison to both of them, he is an infant- Regis was more than four centuries old and had survived "death" twice. Detlaff was even older, and far more reclusive, making him an even more volatile threat to compete with. The Hidden Elder? Not a chance in hell- only a halfway decent mage, protected by multiple wards would stand even a minute chance, as demonstrated when Regis was defeated by Vilgefortz, who melted him into a stain. With that said, the chance of Geralt even attempting to kill one would be considered laughable in the books, even with his particular mutagenic abilities.

Gaunter O'Dimm isn't a god but the series' equivalent to Satan actually. He has abilities far beyond even the Unseen Elder guarding the cave with the portal the higher vampires came through. I do agree on the djinn and the sea / underwater monsters with you. Didn't Eskel kill a higher vampire who had specialised on murdering daughters of the members of the highest echelons by tricking him into drinking a girl's blood infused with a potion so the vampire was sort of dazed and could be taken on relatively easy? Idk if it was in the books or the W3 game, though.
@gifgafgavintw3 Жыл бұрын
With the Gaunter O’Dimm thing it really just depends how you interpret his character, he’s obviously some kind of satanic or god like figure (I tend to say god because that’s what his initials spell out). Regardless he’s still the most powerful being the Witcher universe with no known way to kill him. With the eskel higher vampire thing, he never specifies what vampire it actually was he killed. Theres also a bit problem in the way in which they refer to different vampires as there are three categories of vampires which is lesser vampires (for example a Fleder or Ekimara), higher vampires (for example Bruxa or katakans) and then you have true higher vampires being the likes of Regis. This is all gone over in the books but because of the terminology things can get quite confusing. So when eskel says he killed a higher vampire he likely means the second category not a true higher vampire, either that or the game made a mistake because as we know a true higher vampire cannot truly die unless killed by another of its own kind. This is only the case once they had written blood and wine though I believe so could be the reason if it was indeed a mistake.

So Dettlaf becomes a part of Regis and looses his personality and memories in the process, making him effectively cease to exist, as even if Regis is weakened, the part that was once Detlaf has ne recollection of what it once was and would never revolt. geralt isn’t the most powerful being in the witcher universe, but he is one of the best swordsman’s. one of the best, not the overall best.
@SunsetScepter Жыл бұрын
All in all geralt is no more skilled than an average Witcher. He did undergo extra mutations due to the fact he showed more resilience and compatibility for them, which is what caused his hair to turn white, so he is stronger, faster, and more resilient than other witchers. In fact I'm pretty sure it's implied that in terms of sword skill eskel is an equal, if not better swordsman than geralt even with the extra mutations

@@alexanderschober7197 wait i thought Geralt was literally the most probable to have magical skills? wasn't his mum a sorceress too, and Vilgefortz commented that he would've been an amazing sorcerer/mage?
@alexanderschober7197 Жыл бұрын
@@andreadebernardis4390 Firstly: Geralt and Eskel are both Witchers who use signs, so they both already have (simple) magical skills. Secondly: Yes, you are right too. Vilgefortz and Geralt had a longer conversation, where Vilgefortz tried to persuade Geralt into joining him and becoming a sorcerer. I looked up the proposed sections once more. Here are the most important parts about the topic, so everyone can form his own opinion about it. Triss: "It was Eskel’s behaviour which was most unlikely; he got up, approached the enchantress, bent down low, took her hand and kissed it respectfully. She swiftly withdrew her hand. Not so as to demonstrate her anger and annoyance but to break the pleasant, piercing vibration triggered by the witcher’s touch. Eskel emanated powerfully. More powerfully than Geralt." (Sapkowski, Andrzej. Blood of Elves (The Witcher) (S.89). Orion. Kindle-Version.) Vilgefortz: ‘Why didn’t you become a sorcerer, Geralt? Weren’t you ever attracted by the Art? Be honest.’ ‘I will. I was.’ ‘Why, then, didn’t you follow the voice of that attraction?’ ‘I decided it would be wiser to follow the voice of good sense.’ [...] ‘- We differ too greatly,’ said Geralt, not allowing himself to be interrupted, ‘and the minor fact that my mother was, by accident, a sorceress, is unable to erase that difference.' [...] ‘And so,’ smiled the Witcher, ‘I have no choice? I have to enter into a pact with you, a pact which should someday become the subject of a painting, and become a sorcerer? On account of genetics alone? Give me a break. I know a little about the theory of heredity. My father, as I discovered with no little difficulty, was a wanderer, a churl, a troublemaker and a swashbuckler. My genes on the spear side may be dominant over the genes on the distaff side. The fact that I can swash a buckler pretty well seems to confirm that.’ (Sapkowski, Andrzej. Time of Contempt (The Witcher) (S.141-145). Orion. Kindle-Version.)

The thing I really like about Geralt is I see him as a blue collar worker in a high fantasy world. He is interesting because he's NOT overpowered. He's a bounty hunter working based on learned skill, some enhancements (the mutations) and low end magic. It makes him very good at his job but not a god. He's not Aargaron running around with the Arundil the sword that cut the one ring from Sauron's hand he's not Luke Skywalker the chosen one trying to redeem his father he's a guy with a job to do who gets in over his head. THat doesn't make him less of a hero, arguably it makes him more of one, just not a larger then life superhero.

Geralt may not be the most powerful character when you limit him to nothing but his body and sword, I agree with you there. But I think everyone can agree that he's one of the most capable entities, especially when he has time to prepare, train, and acquire those who can patch any hole or loose end in his strategy against whatever he chooses to hunt. I also think it's a bit disingenuous to say Geralt couldn't kill X Y or Z when they're either Satan himself, magical genie with no known way to die, or literally cannot die due to the universe saying another one of its kind needs to kill it. While they're technically true, and I agree with you on the grounds he cannot technically kill them, it just feels weird soloing him out when most everything else can't kill them either. Good video though, my man, I did appreciate it! Nothing above is meant to be rude, I'm just commenting my thoughts.

I get what you mean and you are correct in that despite having so many creates that could beat Geralt he is still one of the most powerful in the Witcher universe. I do believe at times with some of the monsters I mentioned I did state that I think Geralt would stand a chance against them such as the vixen but with monsters like Gaunter, Djinn and Higher vampire I don’t really think that there’s much room for debate on that. Even if you consider strategy maybe you could eliminate some sea monsters and the vixen but that’s very debatable imo. Anyway I respect ur opinion if u do disagree there and appreciate the comment

While I'd agree that witchers are that powerful I'd like to add that comparing Geralt to average witcher is like comparing veteran navy seal to fresh recruit. Geralt is a unique character in every way. He is considered one of the best fighters of his era, his signs are stronger than most other witchers sue to his unique mutations and he is also considered prodigy in alchemy often improving know recepies. Mix all that with all his experience and you'll get character who is , while not all powerful, at very least major threat to any other high profile adversary.

Also, bruxae seldom make witcher targets as they're a very cunning and powerful vampire type. And we can only kill bruxae, djinns and unseen elders in the mobile game. Realistically unseen elders are way too fast even for one such as Geralt himself. I don't know if there even is such a thing as a fatal injury for beings like djinns but if Geralt's sword, bombs and signs aren't to have some efficacy against a djinn then neither should they hurt wraiths and any other monster from the specter class.

This being after its habitat was logged away and the subspecies hunted to endangerment. No answer is right but it's a fascinating dilemma

Great video mate! I have two points to what you say. 1. Geralt in the books isnt weak by any means, he is the best swordman there. He never lost a swordfight (not counting Vilgefortz and his autocounter stick) and always outclassed his oponents. 2. Point is for the people who didnt read the books. Higher Vampires are probably the strongest beings on the Continent. Geralt did not kill Regis, because he would die and it wouldnt be even remotly close. I was very surprised when i learned about the plot of B&W cuz there is no way to even fight a higher vampire. They move so fast you cant see them or they turn into mist and you are just hitting thin air. Moral of the story Higher Vampires are OP and there is not a single thing you can do about that.

When i started playing the witcher and reading some of the books. I notice that even gameplay wise, he's not the strongest person ever as he shouldn't be the way ive always seen garelt and witchers is that there just humans with mutations and knowledge on there prey. Even in witcher 1 garelt has said before that a witcher is usless without their potions, and that small bit of dialog told me that witchers are not apex preditors because of the mutations alone it told me that knowledge, potions, and sighns, and training for there entire life on top of the mutations is what makes a witcher great and in witcher 1 i felt that the game captured that idea amazingly for a clunky old game it was fun witcher 2 lost that a little bit i felt but the witcher 3 brought that back a bit.

When it comes to higher vampire I think there's another thing to consider. He has no motivation. If drowner pays for food and good night's sleep you won't go around accepting contracts on monster that has good chance at taking you down. Book Geralt espetially. Also just one thing, Geralt's ...uhhh let's call it power level, in the books is really inconsistent, much like for almost every single other character in the books (love the books but bloody hell power levels were not on Sapkowski's list of priorties).

To be fair, but Regis was knocked out by that throw and was fully unconscious for a bit. When Geralt was done he went to check on his friend and do what anyone would do even tho he knows Regis is far more powerful than him. A point you missed about the Kayran, the one Geralt fights in W2 is not a typical Kayran. It had been mutilated and altered by magic to the point Triss, Síle and even Geralt himself make mention of it, it was so mutilated in fact that it was incredibly sick and didn't have long to live. Normally Kayrans are much smaller and docile, the villagers in Flotsam used to call him the "Old Man" and lived happily with it for many years until it suddenly became large and rabid. A normal Kayran Geralt would probably take a contract for, as they can be lured onto land so he doesn't need to fight it in water and they're not as strong as the mutilated Kayran as depicted in W2.
