Mont Saint-Michel in Normandie

One of the highlights of our trip was our visit to Mont Saint-Michel in the Normandie region of France. The walled city was built on a natural rocky island about 1 kilometre off the coast which has a natural strategic defensive position. The abbey on top of the island was completed in the early 13th century and the whole city is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As the whole city is built on a steep hill, all the streets are built on stairs and has about 350 steps to reach the abbey on top.
