Montana Elk hunting with Randy Newberg explains the clothing used for a late October public land rifle hunt where the temperature and conditions can fluctuate rapidly. You will see why we use Sitka Gear for our performance clothing needs.
Additionally, we explain the boots and socks we use, and why Kenetrek is the solution we choose.

Like you, my feet don't get cold that often, i was introduced to liner socks last year for wearing underneath my hiking socks, on long strenuous hikes they much such a difference to comfort levels, especially when it's warm.Cheers Richard

Randy, you should do an updated video. You showcased older versions of Sitka's gear that's no longer for sale. Can't wait to see the new stuff that is coming out, like the subalpine pattern. Also, I saw a tan pair of pants you had on in a photo taken by Steven Drake, I hope Sitka comes out with some more solid options.
@Fresh_Tracks
@Fresh_Tracks 7 жыл бұрын
We will be doing some of those. The tan pants in that photo were a prototype and not yet in production. Most the pieces you see here are in the Subalpine pattern, or the replacement item is very similar. Thanks for watching.

I bought a pair of timberline pants and I found the knee pads to be very low. The top of the knee pad meets the bottom of my knees. They fit more like shin guards. I don’t know if I’m anatomically weird or if the pants were made incorrectly. I received them as a gift and never tried them on til next season and then found the oddity. I was bummed. They looked goofy as hell. LOL Expensive mistake. If you know of a trade in program let me know . LOL

@@Fresh_Tracks I believe it but out here in the east we have some nasty sicker bushes and underbrush that does a number on thin pants. My buddy had stickers tear his timberline pants. Another guy barely caught them on his climbing sticks and tore a half dollar size hole in the front. I feel like for the price they shouldn't tear so easily! Just my opinion.

I grew up hunting in the 70's wearing long johns with flannel shirts and blue jeans and a down or wool jacket, all of it in the West in all kinds of weather. Just watch the old Red Dawn movie and you'll see what I mean. Spending $200.00 for a pair of pants that I'm gonna get blood on just doesn't make any sense to me.

Randy, do you use different patterns, or keep them all the same? Do you prefer to go camo on top and bottom, or does it matter? Have you tried other brands, or pretty loyal to just the Sitka. My husband and I are in the midst of re vamping our hunting gear and want to include the base layer stuff and lighter gear as well. I have read some good stuff about the FirstLite, but with so many options out there...could use some words of wisdom. Thanks bunches!!

I've been using Sitka since I started buying it at full retail for me and guest hunters in 2008. Over the past 11 years it has become my go-to clothing. I've tried others back in the day, but since 2008, I've only used Sitka, so I'm not of much help on other brands. Good luck in your choice.

@@Fresh_Tracks Randy, thank you for your reply. I have another question.. When you are hunting do you usually use camo on top and bottom, or do you mix camo with solids? If so, is there a time, hunt, or reason you would throw in solids vs camo. Thanks again!! ~debbie.

Wash and spray ALL of your clothes, whether orange or camo with a UV killer. Detergents that claim to give you bright colors have UV enhancers. When i 've had a cow only tag, I've had deer and bull elk wander to within 15 yds of where I was sitting and graze around me for 20+minutes while waiting for a cow to show up. And I don't wear any camo, just colors that match the ground cover.

If Sitka wasn't the best clothing I could find for the hunting I do, I wouldn't be using it. Most people ask the question of what Sitka Gear we use, so that is why we did the video. I used it for many years, buying with my own money, before they reached out to me. That was when I had other clothing companies offering to pay me. My faith in Sitka Gear comes from using it for 100 days per year, in very diverse and demanding conditions.

Randy when you layer with the Jetstream coat did you need to go up a size to get the vest and hoodie under?
@Fresh_Tracks
@Fresh_Tracks 7 жыл бұрын
I would try one for size and see how it fits you. Many say the Sitka sizes are a bit tight, so with layering, you might want to try a bigger size. I wear and XL in everything, whether layered or not, and the Jetstream is just fine in an XL when layered. Hope that helps.

Poeple justified in sighting cost you should site? Maybe show moderate cost? That's work? I think you need quality but if people spend more for gear than hunt?! And vice versa, it makes for a dissatisfied hunter/hunting?! So what did I learn, the pants look of interest as I have already made my own version of these, same fetures and more, tactical versions as I am 32yr vet, and have a little experience, but it still cost something

Max Sanchez Ive been buying a Piece of sitka every year now to add to my gear. I like to break it down like this. If the total of my gear costs $1500 and it last me 10 years, (which it almost has) then it costs me $150 a year to wear sitka gear. For a guy like me that is lucky enough to be able to hunt close to everyday out of the season, $150 a year is a pretty low cost for comfortable and durable gear. I agree that it is way over priced and that more affordable gear works just as good but I choose to buy sitka because it fits me the best out of most brands and seems to hold up great to the elements.

Sitka is so dam expensive for no reason but name. The only item no matter brand name that should be expensive is anything with Gore-Tex
@Fresh_Tracks
@Fresh_Tracks 6 жыл бұрын
Sitka is owned by Gore, the company that owns the patent on Gore-Tex, along with the patent on WindStopper. All Sitka products have Gore membranes, either Gore-Tex or WindStopper. For our style of hunting and the 100+ days we are our in some very miserable conditions, performance clothing is the only option. When we started the show I bought all different brands, with my own money, at full retail. When all our hunters were asked what we should use, it was unanimous that Sitka performed best. I continue to buy, with my own money, it at full retail, for the next three years.

Thanks for the video that gives no insight to the common hunter. Do videos portraying gear with the common hunter in mind. Very few people can afford to spend $400 on pants and coat combo. That’s just ludicrous. Come back to the world of common hunter and do a video we can all appreciate rather than show off the money you have to spend.
