Join Megalithomania on an exclusive tour to Sardinia in September 2021. Details here: www.megalithoma.... Monte Baranta is a pre-Nuragic settlement in Nurra at the extreme north-western edge of Sardinia and is home to remarkable megalithic remains built by the Monte Claro Culture. It dates to the Copper Age (2500-2000 BC) and was constructed with massive cyclopean walls following the natural contours of the terrain. The fortress is comprised of a wall-tower and a group of rectangular huts built with large rocks and boulders: even the horse-shoe shaped tower is huge, six and a half meters thick and nine metres high. It sits perched on an outcrop of trachyte over the valley below. At the far end of the wall is a sacred area with a megalithic circle where rituals were carried out. It is made up of 80 standing straight up in a 10 metre wide circle. Between the rocks are characteristic menhir, one split into two pieces, another whole lying on a rocky raise, perfectly polished. East of the wall you will also find the remains of a small village. Seven large, rectangular, multi-room dwellings have so far been identified. Proof of the vitality and density of the population can be seen in the surrounding area where over twenty nuraghe towers are placed. Includes exclusive aerial footage.

At 7:30 the stones around the door have a red pigment? Edge of a cliff.. did a bunch of it fall down there? The width of the walls implies height don’t you think old chap? Xx great vid, thank you 🙏🏽

At 6'22'' did you notice the many stone incisions (drawings?) on the blocks to your right, Hugh? You seem to have missed those.

some of these places, i feel like the original inhabitants slaughtered any human to lay their eyes upon some of the impossible stone work. imagine walking around 30k years ago, or 300k years ago, or 3m years ago, which ever you prefer, there are stories.. but there are no youtube videos of megoliths, just stories. giants, faeries, gods. your walking...walking and then finally, the sun glazing off the edge of something you know to be unnatural, impossible, your mind racing.. then THWAMP, dead. maybe thats why some have such an eerie feeling. ancient memories of utter terror

It is a common problem in Italy that historical sites are often closed for no clear reason, often with hastily made signs saying "technical problems", or whatever. Do your research before travel, since even the websites for many locations are either lacking information, not updated for years, or are closed even during opening hours. It is VERY frustrating.

Could the cart ruts be the reason this area was regarded sacred? The culture that built the walls may of discovered these inexplicable features and decided that they were created by higher beings than themselves and so decided to honour them.Just a thought.

The giants built for humans, thats why doorways are small, purely defensive structure. Giants had no problem scaling the wall to enter, enemy giants doing the same would not get close. Think simple for answers.

These megalithic forms look childishly stacked, when compared to, say Punka Punta. Or all over Cambodia.

Hi guys, what sort of animals were running around hungry back then...I suggest animals big enough to warrant big stoned walls, maybe. I don't think the giants were the problem then I mean some one strong helped move this stuff,,12 foot built like brick out houses and domesticated mammoths...we little humans probably sat on our arsenal and watched whilst eating mushrooms to come up with the extra impossible task. We bad

Locals in Sardinia & Italy don't seem to be the biggest fans of these ancient sites (hint the gun shot metal tourist information boards and access signs, it's a plague there!) - are they concerned that their heritage might be uprooted a bit if somebody looks closely who really shaped these landscapes and built the foundation for many cities (e.g. in Tuscany/Lazio/Umbria)... kind of reminds of the Egyptians, Chinese ("these are not the pyramids you've been looking for" filled with Caucasian mummies), many African countries (Ethiopia etc.). History is a lie and fragile egos abound...
