Thank you very much for posting your long livestreams. My brother showed me a squid one and I think I finally found my new favorite relaxing activity. I barely know what feeling calm is as an autistic adult in this very loud and fast world. Staying in the dark with earplugs watching this video is relaxing me like nothing else before. Even better is that my most favorite thing is sea animals. It's as if these videos were made exactly for me. Time to swim with fish and crabs for an hour now 😴🐠🦀🦑

It is to oxygenate the water for the fish to breathe. The two ways water is oxygenated in nature are 1) via aquatic plants as a byproduct of photosynthesis and 2) via the surface where oxygen diffuses into the water. In an aquarium, it's common to need to supplement oxygen via these bubbles. In home fish tanks, plants and surface diffusion can sometimes be enough, but I'm actually not sure if that's even possible in these massive aquariums no matter how many plants are introduced. That said, I'm just a hobbyist with a few fish tanks, so if MBA can correct me on anything I missed, I'd be grateful ;)

I am pretty sure i read somewhere that its to stop large fish from bonking into the glass for example, the ocean sunfish they have occasionaly

@@mr_ekshun your theory is entirely sound but they have no need to oxygenate the water because they pull it directly from the bay which just generaly makes it easier to run a 1 million gallon tank

Seeing the people standing there watching the marine life always reminds me of the end of Close Encounters where all the people are staring up at the mothership and looking at the aliens. Just my impression.
