Montero gets Jeep headlights | Project "Vader's Chariot"

Due to youknowwhat there was shortage of headlights and mine were all cracked. So decided to try installing the 7 inch round jeep headlights. There were only a couple of pics online of someone doing it, so a lot of it ended up being a bit of a puzzle to figure out.

@@LeoTheRussian The Mk1 and mk2 also can use these lights because I have seen a lot using them now because of the clarity and brightness. the eBay or jeep ones. I see you are running a mk3 model. Are there a lot mk2 for sale in your area?

Monteros overall are really rare. Gen 1 and 3 are the most common. 2.5 is the rarest.

@@carlosRodriguez-u7v2h got the wheels and tires through a local friend in Florida. The rest here and there. LusoOverland has a lot of the stuff you want. I'd start seeing what you want and then time the market by getting it on Labor Day or especially Black Friday. I did that for my GX470 wheels last year and some other bits

I wonder how it would look with the cover back on uncut ? I know yours was cracked but I would rather see it fully covered Also another thought I bet these would be cool as rally lights on a bull bar in the center ! Might check that out for my 2001 montero

There is at least one example of that in the Montero 3rd gen FB group where a guy reused the lenses and epoxied the jeep lights to the housing. It looked pretty good. Another option I was considering was to get a piece of lexan or plexiglass (whatever is durable), and cut out a piece to cover up the center but havent had a need yet.

I'd definitely love to figure out a way to make some kind of techno style rig/setup to be able to make custom headlights. A friend of mine almost had me hack up his tacoma headlights to do a similar conversion

Can you leave the lense on or does it get too hot in the housing? Is that the reason why you cut it off?

Yeah you don't have to cut the lens at all. Just open it up, install the light and close back up. I've seen a couple done like that. In that case though I'd go with a different style retrofit that's specific to the Monty. Mine were cracked pretty badly so I just cut them off.

The two wires you wondering about are for a ring shape bulbs , you have to connect them with a separate switch so you can open them at day time.

yeah I looked into it and already got the DRL harrness as well, just forgot to put that in the video. Figure once they're all connected and headlights been tested a bit more without falling out - I'll make an update video

screwed in and used some metal wire as well. Kind of janky but been a year and still is solid. In retrospect doing some epoxy mounts would've been a good idea.

How’d you get the headlight assemblies out? Did you have to remove the bumper and/or grill?

If I remember correctly you have to take the grill out, but not the bumper. Headlights are held by 3 bolts total only. It's real easy. Hardest part is the grille with the flimsy clips on it.

Been awhile, but I'm 99% sure you don't. Just the grill and lift the hood. It's 3 bolts. Two from the top and one covered by the grill I believe

Если лензы без трещин то их можно прям назад поставить поверх фар. Или сделать из какого нибудь пластика панель чтобы закрыть фары. Или новые лензы купить. Они не дорогие - мне просто не надо было

Figure it should be ok considering you have spots in the lower and upper grille that are open year round. You could also get a small sheet of clear plexy or lexan type material and cut out covers that can be just easily screwed in the depression left in the stock black plastic housing.

Just the center. Rear can have an LSD as well however. 2003-2006 has amazing traction control that works extremely well and mimics front and rear lockers. Watch the video of Land Cruiser Vs Patrol Vs Montero - really shows how well the traction control works. 2001-2002 did not have that system however

Just a throttle body. Mine was janky and my friend said that when I first got the truck but it kind of gotten forgotten :) previous owner tried to fix something with what looked to be epoxy or something.
