Hey guys! I'm Summer Meyers, homeschool mom to five kiddos, and we talk all things homeschool on this channel. Homeschool community is important to me--talking about homeschool and encouragement to be our best selves for our children is powerful. So interesting, she was definitely more of an academic than a business women. Yet there were so many people trying to influence the trajectory of her life and she really had to navigate that. She chose the greatest purpose she could in the end. She was educated in engineering and then became a doctor, yet her passion was so much more influential and enduring as well as compassionate for the times she lived in. She is a mother Theresa in her own right.

i agree… she may have been technically trained to pursue an engineering profession, but found her true calling in advancing children’s learning techniques. What a blessing to early education.

She did not let her time period slow her down for a minute! I loved learning more about her. I wish I could have spent more time on her time in India.. a lot of cool things that she did that was very surprising. She never did anything predictable! ❤️

Very interesting, very informative, and very fun to watch! ❤ What about her personal life? I know nothing about her. Was she married? Have children herself?

I decided not to include her personal life just because I wanted to make sure to catalog her many achievements in relation to her method. But you make a good point! Her son Mario was extremely influential in her later years, but he was born out of wedlock and sent away for the majority of his childhood. I debated on adding it, and in the end decided to keep it out because it detracted from the main message I was trying to get across.

So interesting … I’ve heard so many favorable and unfavorable comments over the years about the Montessori approach to teaching children… it’s good to hear more exact historical info about her child development and educational discoveries. Is there a biography you can recommend?

Yes! She has several published books that are still in print today. I really enjoyed her Montessori method. So much good information! ❤️

So good. If you haven’t already read “The Child Is the Teacher” by Christina de Stefano, please do!! She goes into so much more detail in both what was covered here and far beyond! Also, just want to acknowledge that Montessori stayed aligned with peace and human goodness vs. fascism. Huge win for us all there through her strong internal compass.
