I think it's really cool that you are encouraging interest in insects and not just animals like mammals from such a young age. I was discouraged from my interest in insects as a kid... if I was raised like that I probably wouldn't feel guilty for liking them

Ahhh! I am so glad I watched this. I spent a lot of time recently making cards for all my toddler's new Safari animals. I thought I was doing it right by getting a nice photo off Google to match with. I didn't even consider doing identical cards first and looking at it from a perspective of there being levels of matching. I just got so excited and wrapped up in creating the activity that I didn't consider the person it was even made for. I am going to save them still for when she masters the identical cards. THANK YOU for providing the ones you made!

So much fun! Maddie loves doing these kinds of activities. We added in the “that’s not my...” books from Usborne. She can match the toys to the animals on the books. They aren’t “realistic” pictures but we found she’s learning a lot of vocabulary. It’ll show a bumble bee with wings that are fuzzy or shiny. They can touch the parts of the animals and learn the vocabulary associated with different feelings. Since the books follow the same style and the feelings like bumpy, shiny, smooth, etc are pretty much the same for each book she’s started to “read” them on her own. It’s pretty cool! She gets very proud of herself when she reads through the book on her own. Also, everyone tells me I’m crazy for buying a laminator. They just don’t understand!

This activity is one of our favorites as well, we only have wild animals so far. I need to get some different ones, like insects. I never thought of the different ways you can use this activity, I am going to use Spot the Match, I like the idea of having them choose something. You are so good at explaining how everything works and how you should use it the right way. I need a laminator asap :D. Great video, Ashley ❤️!

Thank you for showing us how to introduce and use the activity. How do you introduce the items when you do toy rotations? My understanding is with Montessori you want them to figure out how to play, but do you first model it then let them play? I"m a little torn because if I model it, I feel like I'm enforcing them to play the way I show them but if I don't, they don't seem to figure out what to do with them. Also would love to see a video on how to introduce new activity for toy rotation if you get a chance. Thank you so much!
@HapaFamily5 жыл бұрын
When introducing a traditional Montessori activity, there is always a “presentation” to the child the first time. After that, it’s up to the child to take the time they need to master it. In a home environment, you could certainly do a presentation if you’d like, but I think it really depends on what the activity is. If you’re introducing something that is more of a “toy” than a specific activity that follows a process, you could just put if out for your child to explore on their own. I think at home, it becomes a personal decision based on your goals for your child. As far as how we introduce a new activity in our house after a toy rotation - I just rotate things as needed and if it’s something new, I do a presentation for her when she first discovers it and takes it off the shelf.
