Totally wanting the area you have by the kitchen/living room...I live with my in laws and they are extremely clean so it has been very difficult to share the common area at least for me. Thank Goodness we have a ton of park time and a play room!

I always thought a play space would need to be in an extra bedroom. You have found a way to create 2 play spaces and make it easy for everyone to be together through out the day. And it is easy to keep everything picked up and put away. Great job.

Thank you! One thing I didn't mention that we are about to change them as Scarlett is getting older. The beauty of having play areas vs. play room you can have fun in any place of your house and it looks neat.

What a nice video! I liked how you separated two different styles! We are 6 months and for now I just created a simple playroom but tried to make it as useful as possible.

Katia Vásquez I'm glad it was helpful and gave you ideas! In a nut shell Waldorf uses imaginary approach and has a curriculum that is taught to students, Montessori is based on practical life activities that build up on each other and teachers act as guides watching kids and providing only guidance in the activities. I'm filming playroom tour in a few weeks make sure to check it out!

This was a great video...I really enjoyed seeing your different play spaces. I was wondering if you have any baby gates; I have a daughter that is 10 months I have gate up which I really do not like but I feel there is too many dangerous things around especially our tv cords. How do you deal with that aspect? Thanks!!
@MariyaStephenson8 жыл бұрын
Hi! I used to have a play pan and she hated it so I packed it up when she was about 11 months. We just baby proofed the house all the sockets are covered, doors with household cleaners locked, no cords. But honestly you just have to watch them non stop. Hope it helps!

Claude Debussy sorry you got that impression from this video, but I actually do. My daughter goes to Montessori school and I do a lot of Montessori at home activities as well as one of my family members runs a Montessori school in a different country. I don’t follow the approach 100% but incorporate it a lot in our life. This video is focused on creating play areas at home and how to create an environment where the child is independent. But I’m sorry you didn’t find it helpful there are multiple videos on KZbin that might be more interesting for you.

Mariya, I didn't to be rude but I've studied Waldorf education and I find it more sensitive to the growth phases of children. Young children's brains aren't developed enough to learn mathematics and other cognitive types of learning until they're at least seven or eight years of age. Rudolf Steiner, who was responsible for Waldorf education, explained that young children need to hear stories and songs that stimulate the imagination whereas I understand that Montessori education has them doing math and reading well before their brains are developed enough. Also, Waldorf kids only use wooden toys but no plastic. I feel that if parents understood the difference between the two types of education, they would choose Waldorf. I've visited the largest Waldorf school in Los Angeles and I've never seen such joyful and spontaneous children in my life.

Claude Debussy in Montessori they also prefer natural materials such as wood, glass etc. in all of my videos I say that I’m inspired by Montessori approach but put my own twist on it. I think every kid is ready to read and do math at different stage and in Montessori children are grouped 1,5 to 3 y.o. than 3 to 6 and all the materials are available for curious minds but the kids are not forced to specifically learn anything. The materials are very different from the conventional schools so math and reading are introduced through understanding of the processes and use of materials. I personally like Montessori focus on practical life, independence and self care. Kids can do so much more for themselves than they are typically get a chance to do. But in traditional school system kids start reading and doing math in kindergarten at the age of 5 and I personally don’t think it’s too early. At the same time I think Waldorf education is great as well but you are absolutely right the resources about it are very limited.

I had the feeling that you preferred Montessori but there's room for both.

Claude Debussy of course there is and many other ways to raise children! Every child and parent is different and different methods match their personality. What matters is how much effort and love you are putting in it!
