The Chinese from Wing Sung came up with this piston locking system about 5 years ago for their Wing Sung 698 and 618 models, they are very cool pens, if you like demonstrator type fountain pens.

Which do you recommend more? I’ll check one out
@fountainpencollection2 ай бұрын
@@WastedPaper Well, both are nice, now it depends on which style of Fountain pen you prefer, the Wing Sung 618 is a Parker 51 style hooded nib demonstrator fountain pen and the Wing Sung 698 is a TWSBI Eco with a number 5 exposed nib style fountain pen .

Wow! very cool! I love Monteverde pens. I'd really like to try this out.

I am new to the channel. Thanks for the review. I have been very interested in this model. I have owned a number of Monteverde and Conklin pens and am glad to see a post n filler. Next should be a vacuum filler (I hope). I am usually not a fan of sections with triangular sections but if it is not deeply carved into the grip, then it should be doable. I am also pleased to see a review by a left handed overwriter, lol. I am just the same way. I have avoided wider nibs as I have smeared so many inks across the page. If you could mention the dry time for the ink you are using, it would be appreciated.
@WastedPaper2 ай бұрын
Sure no issue I can I use different inks so often I just didn’t want it to apply to each ink. Are you a side writer like me or under or over?
@paulmchugh14302 ай бұрын
@@WastedPaper it depends on the position of the paper. I usually angle the paper to the left and write across the page. I guess that would make me a side writer. If the paper is in a vertical position, then I tend to overwrite the page. I also do not like ringed notebooks with the rings on the side. I prefer rings on the top to not have to write on top of or over the spiral or rings. Otherwise I start the notebook from the back with the spiral on the right side. Is that weird? I always look for inks that dry fast to avoid smearing the ink as well as paper that is not coated like Rhodia - longer dry times.

@@paulmchugh1430 kim Jim makes a notebook that you can refill with the rings not in the center. I have that it’s nice. I love my travelers notebook too.
@paulmchugh14302 ай бұрын
@@WastedPaper Thanks for the suggestion. I have scoured the stores for top ringed notebooks and found either a Rhodia notebook or one from MintGreen which is only available at Walmart.

Love the color of that pen and nice ink choice to match it. I'm with you on shimmer. I love the look, but I hate having to shake/twist/spin/tap/pat/burp/snuggle the pen constantly to keep the shimmer in suspension.
@WastedPaper2 ай бұрын
Yea it’s not too often but demonstrators I feel like ask for shimmer ink. 😅

Thanks for the video. Well done! I am not a big fan of Monteverde pens. They feel like rebranded Chinese pens. The $30 Monza is probably made at the same plant as Jinhao’s 992 worth about $2. This MP1 has a similar locking system as Wing Sung’s 698 or 3008 which are 1/3 of the cost, and actually pretty decent pens. I don’t see myself adding one of these MV’s to my collection… Thanks again. Always nice to see new content creators with a fresh set of eyes…

I can see what you’re saying. I think their innova M line stood out to me. It’s one of my older videos but that pen seems unique to them and I was a fan of the aesthetic!

Thanks for an in depth look at this pen, I have been intrigued by it and was wondering how it compared to the ECO. I also love the base color of Sugar and Spite - a good non-shimmer that I have found that compares very well is Colorverse Einstein Ring, although it is a little wetter than the FWP one :)

I did it lol. I bought it and a fun shimmery ink to go with it. I already have sugar and spite in another pen so I got a violet silver shimmer ink for this one

I am certainly thinking of buying this pen. There is one question, though. Can you remove the piston for maintenance? I heard the section cannot be removed.
@misswoodhouse572029 күн бұрын
I can only think of what happens when or if these start cracking. I wonder if Monteverde will replace the parts like twisbi does. Also, twsbi likes to let us dismantle our pens to clean, seems Monteverde does not want us to clean by taking it apart.
@davidteer8023 күн бұрын
Is the MP1 made out of the same type of plastic that TWSBI's are?
@misswoodhouse572022 күн бұрын
@@davidteer80 It looks awfully the same as a twsbi. I maybe wrong through.
@davidteer8022 күн бұрын
@@misswoodhouse5720 Looks are irrelevant. It is the material that matters. TWSBI uses a plastic that is known to be more brittle, but works better with injection molding. Doodlebug and Inkquiring Minds have talked about the difference. The MP1 is so new I cannot find any information on the type of plastic.

I mean yes, it's a glorified Twsbi Eco, but it seems nice enough on its own merits. I'm just not sure the price is justified, especially at MSRP.
