I believe Guanacaste in general is pretty safe. You will find DOZEN of expats and such there. Just like anywhere else in the world. Be careful where you go at night, take care of your personal belongings, there are always people trying to steal in tourist and high-traffic areas but I think that happens anywhere in the world. Other than that you will be ok
