I think Monty was still handsome even after his accident. What a fine gifted and talented actor, gone too soon.

Yes that is so true about the question concerning the romances with his leading ladies.....he was so unbelievably honest, or as honest as he possibly could be, during such a heightened era of repression. It truly is touching, he doesn't lie but he doesn't offer any information that he doesn't need to offer.

Montgomery Clift was the best of the best! Not only handsome and good-looking beyond compare for all of his life but he was also gentle and kind and had a BIG heart, an amazingly talented actor who did not take any crap from anyone including Hitchcock, who did things his way and that's what makes him GREAT!!! Never forgotten, ALWAYS LOVED. RIP Monty!

On January 13, 1963, a few weeks after the initial release of Freud, Clift appeared on the live TV discussion programme The Hy Gardner Show, where he spoke at length about the release of his current film, his film career, and treatment by the press. He also talked publicly for the first time about his 1956 car accident, the injuries he received, and its after-effects on his appearance. During the interview, Gardner jokingly mentioned that it is "the first and last appearance on a television interview programme for Montgomery Clift".

I think the most interesting thing about him was how selective he was with scripts. When you look at the movies he made - even though there weren't very many films, they were almost all different or intriguing in some way. He was really smart about picking his projects.

"that was back in the thirties before you were born" Lmao. Monty made this cocky remark bringing up the age difference between him and Hy Gardner at least twice in the interview. It's pretty damn funny because Hy Gardner was born in 1908 and Monty was born in 1920 so that would actually make Hy Gardner twelve years older than Monty. And Hy responds to that with: "why, thank you", just made it more hilarious!

By reading the comments, it seems that somebody met and knew Mr. Clift, if he/she is sure of the supposed facts he/she is sharing. It's so easy for some to criticize, judge others, especially when they are dead and can't defend themselves; "Do not judge, or you too will be judged...". Lucky the people that knew Mr. Clift personally. I wish I would have met him; I would have love to have a conversation with him. Thanks so much for the videos of this 'marvelous' interview.

Monty was so sophisticated, intelligent, humorous and elegant. Sadly, the interviewer didn't ask very good questions or engage him in interesting conversation.

Yes, that sounded like it would've been very worthwhile. But Greta stuck to her guns, and never made another film.

Elizabeth Taylor's statement regarding Monty's death can be seen if you search "Elisabeth Taylor 1966 interview" - it's in French but you can hear her voice even over the dubbing. It's terribly sad, he was a very damaged person but the people who loved him really loved him dearly. Hell, Taylor cut her salary to insure him in hopes that he would make Reflections in a Golden Eye with her.

The friend driving in front of him was actor Kevin McCarthy. The truth was, McCarthy was guiding Monty down the mountain and sped up because he was worried Monty was going to crash into him. Monty tried to keep up and lost control. Monty was a terrible driver and had had several crashes before that night. In fact he had promised to give up driving and was badgered by Elizabeth Taylor to visit her that night and he eventually gave in, after having sent his driver home.

To the people who want to know about Monty watch his latest documentary, Making Montgomery Clift made by his nephew. The documentary will debunking about the sad gay man that many people said, including the biography made by that greedy woman who made a lot of false claims about him, including picking up a young boy and having a 16 years old as his movie premiere date! I watched that documentary and pissed me off when Monty’s family put so much trust in her and SHE RUINED MONTY’S REPUTATION!!!

I can't quite figure out if this interview is genuinely nice or a bit of a manipulator. Maybe I'm being unfair. Must have been awkward being gay at that time in particular and a genuine reason to not do many interviews.

"Montgomery Clift was handsome, talented and gay which makes him COOLER." So was Adolf Eichmann, what's you point? Clift was a morally repugnant man just like Eichmann.
