That applies to getting a job as well.

UserName0043 Ha-ha. Yes, I'm sure that NYC is very nice... especially Manhattan. But Chicago's great, too... especially when it comes to superior hot dogs and pizza (both thin and thick crust). And Montreal is fantastic for the culture of the people, the cleanliness, low crime, the Metro subway system, 400-year old churches, great parks, and a million other things. NYC may be a truly great city (maybe in many respects the BEST American city, but it isn't the ONLY truly great city on the continent.

UserName0043 My brother who lives just outside of Chicago really loves New York. I have never been to NYC, but I know it is a fantastic place. I had the pleasure (too long story to tell here) of attending university up in Montreal decades ago. Loved it! Even now, I sometimes watch the television news from Montreal, although I live about 3000 miles southwest. Montreal is a place that really sticks with you. If you live in NYC, you should try to get up there for a short vacation. Do you live in New York?

Being a Montrealer, the highway we see at the beginning is Bonaventure and it has almost desappeared since a year ago. The city has decided to do a boulevard on ground instead of aerial. We don't see them, depending at what time of the day or what day this was shot, commuter buses coming from the south shore of the island take this route every morning to bring workers and students to downtown. I am part of it and it's hell everytime since they begun the roadworks. Btw, Montreal isn't only french. It has 3 english universities: McGill, Concordia and Loyola. The first one, actor William Shatner studied there.

Montreal just never changes no matter how much it's affected, that's a good thing. Unlike Toronto that's been overly affected and changed too much by from that 2010 Harper's G-20 summit. That's funny. Back in 2014 it was my second year in this city (I'm from a rural region in the province of Quebec called Saguenay), I was living in Outremont and studying full time at the University of Montreal. Now, I'm living in Griffintown, near the René Lévesque boulevard. I'm working at the Sun Life building and I'm walking every morning on the René Lévesque boulevard to get to work. On that street, not so much has changed except a few new skyscrapers. However, it would be interesting to see how Griffintown looked like at that time because my whole neighborhood didn't exist at that time, and there are cranes everywhere with new impressive real estate projects. I wasn't going in that area that much back in 2014, I was basically remaining in Côte-des-Neiges/Outremont all the time.

Hi, Just want to let you know that actually the cost of life is not that expensive in Montreal if you compare to other major cities in America. Yes the taxes are high but the rent,food... are not that high. And also You can find a job and be assimilated very well in Montreal if you speak English. You will have a hard time to find a job in the city if you only speak french. According to wikipedia 56% of the metropolitan area population speak both languages. And I'm sure its more than that in the city itself. I don't know any french people that live in the city that doesn't speak English at least well.

It is the best city in north america as far as quality of life from march to December. I wouldn't go there in the dead of winter but otherwise there's still no other city that can beat Montreal. Once you get outside of the city it is a different story because of language and such.

I live around NYC and it's nice but a pain to get around everyone blows horns and no one could care less about you ! It's really about survival there. I go to Montreal and Canada every year and I love ❤️ it there feels like a second home! People are warm friendly and laid back and don't blow as many horns LOL. Went there 2 weeks ago and unfortunately there was too much construction on route 15 which sucked and was comparable to traffic in NYC . But regardless I love being a fake Canadian 😂

I'm living in Montreal for a few months. I used to live in the GTA for a while, but was hired here. I could also live on my little wage here. With the French, it largely depends, where you are settling. Some quarters are bilingual, some have a lot of immigrants here, some are only French or English. The problem as well is that Quebec requires French to live here. Sadly, I have to leave Canada soon. To admit: I felt more home in English spoken provinces. But it's up to oneself. Maybe in a couple of years, I will be back. Great places to visit are definitely Old Montreal and the Mount Royal with a view over the city. Laval has a the huge Carrefour.

Love the video...and the music track is perfect. Just one thing...no Old Montreal in more depth?...and no Sherbrooke street? You will have to go back and film these locations and include them in the video to make it complete. Apartment rental here in Montreal is VERY reasonable. And house prices as well are half that of Toronto or Vancouver. And after Barcelona, Montreal is the BEST city for entertainment, events, festivals etc in summer....in the world!

Go to kijiji dot com then click on ENG or English and look for Montreal or Greater Montreal, look for apartments or flats to rent. The rents have gone up. It used to be you would pay about 100$ per room (in a 4 and a half room flat or apt) per month back in the 80s. Now it's about 200$ per room and more many times. Condos are springing up everywhere more and more. I think when house fires start, the firemen come and cause so much damage on purpose with the water, that the landlord is able to build condos, sell it all, and move out of the neighborhood. Firemen before, would try to save the burning building. Now, it's like they've been told to wait until the fire grows to big and then ruin it all with way too much water.

Exclusively for ALL roads in the Province of Quebec and not just "Autoroute" System or as I a non-French speaking Canadian calls it Quebec's Highway System: all road signs are mostly in French except maybe some bilingual in Montreal area and close to Ontario border. Hi John, I'm from Toronto. Yes, Ontario's Highway System is pretty much identical with Eisenhower/Interstate Highway System. Highway 401 runs from Windsor, Ontario (border with Detroit, MI) all the way to Quebec border (around 520 miles) when it turns into Quebec Autoroute 20. Also lots of other Interstate-like highways including 402 (off 401) that takes you to Sarnia, Ontario - Port Huron, MI border crossing, also Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) from Toronto to Fort Erie, Ontario - Buffalo, NY border crossing, also off QEW is 405 to Niagara Falls, Ontario into Niagara Falls, NY, also another highway off QEW that takes you to Queenston - Lewiston border crossing, also we have couple of south to north highways but up to max 200 miles north of Toronto where all Interstate-like highways end and only low-speed limits rural roads are available to ppl who live in those places. At least 75% of Ontario's population is located up to 200 miles away from the US border particularly btwn Detroit and Port Huron, MI area to entire Ontario-NY State border area. If you ever plan on driving into Canada especially Ontario, do not hesitate to get in touch with me BEFORE you arrive at the border. You can even legally bring your guns with you to Canada, I always lawfully take my Mossberg 500 JIC Cruiser to USA each and every year I vacation down in Texas or Florida. Montreal is great but i wish they would fix the damn roads! I don't think there is a single good road anywhere in Montreal. Don't blame it on the weather, it plays a role but look at Calgary with its massive temperature swings. Near perfect roads.

Montreal is 375 years old.... Plus they massively invested in infrastructure back in 1960 and 1970, which is 40-50 years ago, which means it has been a complete cycle. Montreal was already a major North American City, when Calgary was just an other shit hole in the Prairies. Cities are usually cyclical, thing go great, thing go less great, thing go great gain, etc. Montreal was in a less glorious period, but thing are going back lately.

I don't know where YOU live but in North America after green comes YELLOW (the traffic light in the video at 4:20) and then Red, fully legal to cross the intersection on YELLOW (also called AMBER). So: green, yellow, red. ALWAYS.

ZverYshka Cause you are not from here, when the traffic light turns red for one particular direction let's say north-south, so green, yellow and then red, it then takes about 3-5 sec until the red light for the other direction east-west turns green. Therefore only when you get into the intersection 3-5 sec AFTER it turned red you will mostly collide with the opposite traffic that already got the green light. Understand now? Drive safely.

i was born here but i was to young to remember it i have to say it is a very clean and beautiful city not a piece of trash on the street very tidy much nicer than Toronto but Vancouver is my home and is the most beautiful city in Canada and costs the most to live in a 60 year old shabby east side house 36 by 95 foot lot is $1.4 million and used to be higher a few years ago the homes on the west side are $4 million to $25 million if you can make it here you can make it anywhere

13% sales tax in Ontario and 15% in Quebec. Michigan??? C$5.32/gallon regular gas in Toronto, in Montreal even more expensive cause they (Vancouver as well) have an ADDITIONAL 1% city-only gas tax, regular gas in Detroit or Michigan??? At least 75% of the entire VERY HIGH taxation rates in entire Canada is used to directly subsidize the super expensive govt-run universal healthcare or as it's better known in USA: OBAMACARE. Most of the ppl who own those very expensive real estate properties you are talking about are overwhelmingly very rich ppl with an income of $500K+ per year. Ontario where I live is now officially (since 2013) a subsidized province by the very oil-rich Alberta (you know, the one with oil sands and Keystone Pipeline your POTUS hates to death), Ontario's Debt after already 11 years of disastrous Liberal Party's SOCIALIST economical policies is at astronomical levels, $283B for a population of almost 13M ppl. Go to Houston or Miami, so Texas or Florida, states with NO state income tax and low sales tax (compared to Ontario or Quebec), and see for yourself how first class those cities are, infrastructure included, why? cause there is no major expenditure on a very expensive universal healthcare like the one in Canada and therefore no need to raise taxes, current taxes (I'm talking about Houston or Miami) IF used wisely can make your city be the envy of the entire Free World. But YES, IF all you want is "free" universal healthcare, heavily subsidized by the govt thru very high taxation, in this case Toronto, Montreal or Toronto are a million times a better city than a Houston or Miami.

***** its very simple chris, canadian cities outrank american cities in quality of life time after time. like i said before, that translates to economic growth and stability, which canadian cities are very good at; as proven by their resilience during the economic crisis of 2008. in canada they dont build real estate by speculation, they build by real demand, and therefore fewer housing and economic bubbles, not to mention decay. all of this, because of responsible regulation. as far as healthcare goes, you are insane to compare the canadian health system with obamacare, there is just no comparison, so dont go there. and the benefits of a universal healthcare system are that citizens pay for it not companies, which allows canadians to have lower taxes on business. as far as alberta and texas go, these polities are heavily depended on natural resources, which is where their economic growth derives from, take that away and they are very little if anything of relevance.

Yes, taxes are definitely higher in Canada. But, this is a more socialist country. We put those taxes to good use, for the betterment of ALL people; the handicapped, the poor, the elderly, the mentally ill, the sick. An American lawyer I spoke to in a restaurant in NYC told me that Canada is like the US...but with a heart. As they say, a society is judged by how it treats its least fortunate.
