Glad you included "steamies" and fries which is often forgotten by others discussing iconic Montreal foods. That being said, I've gone to the Greenspot and their version is not very good and their fries taste a little weird. Ironically you were just a few stores down from a much better version at New System BBQ. The best places for this are The Montreal Pool Room and the La Belle Province chain (especially the one at the corner of Ste. Catherine and St. Laurent).

@@giseledubois6565 actually in Canada there is two kinds of garlic sauce, there is toum but the most pupolar is Aoli, its a sweeter kind of garlic sauce. We have many versions of Aoli and we love to dip pizza in it.

The Lebanese garlic sauce is called toum, its not mayo as there is no egg. It is an emulsion though that is why it is thick. It is just garlic, lemon juice, water salt and vegetable oil. I love this sauce. Cheers I miss eating in Montreal!!

Next time, you MUST go to Decarie Hotdog for their toastie. You won’t be disappointed. The people who sent you to Lesters know what they’re talking about. fun video to watch, thanks. Interesting to find out you get St-Viateur bagels in Halifax, but to me a big part of the bagel is getting them from the store, with the wood burning oven open, the smell, the fogging of the glasses in winter, as well as the challenge of buying a dozen and getting home with more than 9 left. Hi guys just happened to fall on this vid. I am a born and bred Montrealer and like all the Greeks in this city heavily involved in the restaurant business in the city. A few comments about your tasting, yes lesters has been around for ever and it does supply many of rest of the restaurants in the city with smoked meat, however Lester's meat is factory made and not aged or smoked on the premises like Schwartz. Schwartz does taste different, it tends to be a little dryer and crumbles much more easily but it is more flavourful. If you come back I do recommend you try it so you can compare. Hot Dogs are good pretty much anywhere in the city but if you want to try the best, then you need to come back in the winter and go to a Habs game because bar none a Bell Centre hot dog is the best in the city. As an added bonus you get to watch a game in the best atmosphere in the NHL, mind you with the habs sucking so badly this year you may want to wait till next season lolll. Chris

Not a bad video. As others have stated glad you stepped out of downtown and the plateau. I have lived in St-Henri for 20+ years and it is ever changing. The spots you picked, were ... surprising, but good, with the exception of Boustans, I had an audible groan when I saw you stop there. SOOOOO much on Notre Dame. I mean you walked from Arthurs, to Boustans and somehow bypassed 3 amazing Taco spots, Bucky Roosters, le Kioko and Satay Brothers.... But all good, I guess taste comes into play, just happy St-Henri was on the map.

Being born and raised in Montreal, I have to say that the MAIN REASON why you were refered to Lester's is, I believe, out of jealousy. I'll explain : Schwartz's is the ORIGINAL Montreal smoked meat recipe, but since it's always full with a long waiting line outside, ALWAYS, people will recommend Lester's restaurant, because it is (at least in my opinion) the second best smoked meat in Montreal! The Schwartz's smoked meat is covered in a special blend of spices for a total of 8 to 10 days before being steamed almost a day and that's why the meat is so moist, soft and tender packed with loads of flavors!
@HabsFan19782 жыл бұрын

Dunn's on Decarie has great smoked meat too. And great strawberry cheesecake. You can also get tell glasses of black cherry soft drink from the fountain with free refills. From Montreal, now living in France. Went back to Montreal for the summer last year and definitely went for a poutine at La Banquise, a special Wilensky, a few bagels for the road...and a Schwartz! Lester is fine too (I enjoy their poutine with smoked meat) but Schwartz has a smoked meat that has more fat, but is also more delicious in my view. You went for the classic fast food type of meal but Montreal also have plenty good "real" restaurants to offer. I have not tried all the sandwiches you tried in this video but in my view, Montreal's best sandwiches are at Olives&Gourmando. I am not making any specific recommendations as they are all delicious, so are all their pastries. Montreal is a multicultural city: my favorite place for brunch is "Byblos" an persian restaurant, their omelette à la feta is fantastic, the babaghanouj salad from "Damas" (syrian, as the name suggest), Le petit Alep (or its big brother the "Alep")...all so good! The gourmet québécois "Au pied de cochon" and so many more.

I enjoy watching travel/food videos about Montreal, and yours was especially fun to watch because I not only knew all the places you visited, but I knew the side streets and parks where you were filming your consumption of said foods. Saint Henri has a growing food scene, and the parking lot you walked past after the donut is next to my favorite burrito place, Tejano. Boustan, while excellent, is a small chain and you probably would have enjoyed Sumac as an option, which was the next block over (on your way to Green Spot). As for hot dogs in Montreal, Decarie Hot Dog is my personal favorite, but that wasn't exactly within the walkiung routes you seemed to have planned out for the videos. Should you return to Montreal, Little Burgundy (Petite Bourgogne) has some fantastic BBQ (Boucan) and crepes (Spanel). There is also a boom in fried chicken options throughout the city. Verdun is another neighborhood you should consider for a walking and eating tour.

Both are excellent, but I prefer St. Viateur as it’s not as sweet. You said there is one in Halifax. I looked on line and I see only the original and a few around Montreal. Where is the one in Halifax? BTW, it’s pronounced Via Tour! Locals also go to Schwartz! As someone said, the medium fat is the way to go when ordering your smoke meat. Your Lester sandwich looked lean! The Montreal smoke meat is more like corn beef ( brisket), versus the pastrami type in NYC

Noooooo, too late! Best to eat hot with lots of mustard before your bod knows what's hitting it! Glad I eloped too, hadn't heard of but definitely no Cape Breton pizza burger 🍔 for my guests, safe journey back guys, oh sorry you're gonna miss our bagels, tough break! Oh that "W" place closed on Mondays!

Enjoy the half moon a setting right now, following the sun 🌞 if you're still here/check out my weather network pics, if you've the app/it's free, look at local side, some of my pics do make it on popular and see my pics! Yesterday it was a roadside help turtle 🐢 here, yes look at Pointe Claire, Josée, those are my front and back yards! I'm a forest technician. So bon retour à la maison, yrs back visiting the old market there, where cruise ships dock (it's like looking at a wall of windows, 😝) I was asked wouldn't I like to have some breakfast pizza 🍕 😝 😝, made ready fresh there, omg is nothing sacred! My daughter works at Jean Talon Market, organic section, she's a biologist who has started her own mushroom 🍄 farm!

'Poudding Chaumaure' (Unemployment Pudding) Also known as 'Pain Perdu' (Lost bread) .was an inexpensive dessert. Made from sweet bread with a sauce made from caramelized sugar, water and honey (or maple syrup if you can afford it).

I would give you 9/10 in your picks. Boustan is not a Montreal institution. No matter where you go in Montreal, the smoked -meat sandwiches are good. There are so many hot-dog institutions also in Montreal, the Greenspot is one of them. Nice video!

Hey there! The pudding chômeur, if you wanna pronouce it the way it's intended to be try: Pudding (Show-mer) like you would pronounce the name Homer but with a shhh sound before.

Great video guys! Montreal is a great city. Lots to see and do but most importantly EAT..lol I know you've visited Greece in the past(I'm greek canadian) there's lots of hidden gems in our city! Mr. Puffs for awesome loukoumades and freddo cappuccino! Elatos for really good gyros/souvlakis. For other great ethnic food try out ma poule mouillé for portuguese chicken and for a good burger try out Uniburger. Enjoy your stay!

@@DelightfulTravellers something of interest is Montreal Pool Room is in the heart of the Red Light district Café Cléopâtra is directly across the street & is heritage protected, that is why it is nesting in the posh/lux Le Central food court. It is also 5-10 minute walk from Chinatown and Quartier des spectacles.

omg now you are in food heaven in Montreal. i grew up in Montreal and the food is to die for. 1 place you need to try for the real donnar is village grec again as in most places in Montreal where the food is amazing is small but so worth the trip for the donnar.

Schwartz IS a tourist trap. Main in front is way better. But you guys made the right choice, Lester's is the best smoked meat in Montreal. Based on the places you went, you really did your homeworks. La Banquise is also a tourist trap by the way. It's not bad but there so many better places. There are hardly any cheese in their poutine, I always ask for at 2x extra cheese and even then. I look at the poutine you guys ate and I want to cry. Next time you come, try the Big Nasty at Dinette Triple Crown, the Buck Burger at Dilallo and the poutine at Paul Patates

The roll on your steamie is just commercial hotdog rolls you can buy at the grocery store, the trick is they keep them in the steamer with the hotdogs. They must get infused with hotdog essence or something lol

Steak Frite is also a must try in Montreal. Thick Filet Mignon, medium rare, with often choices of sauce, and French fries, usually long and thin. That’s it. Again, simple 😜😋
