When you listen to this, you only can think, sadly think, that today's opera is dead. I can extent my self talking about all the technical, musical aspects, but since I'm not going to solve the problems of today opera...let's keep enjoying all this recordings. RIP opera.

Glorious voice. One of my all-time favorites. 1966. That is the year I first met her, at the NY apartment of opera impresario Allen Sven Oxenberg, and ate a dinner of paella which she not only cooked, but served. Hair up. Wearing a white apron. So absolutely ordinary and unpretentious. Yet so heavenly gifted.

@@judyjones2475 Judy, embarrassingly, at the time I was only 23, not yet an opera buff, and when I arrived for a small dinner party of four, I entered the kitchen and assumed the woman in the apron, with her hair up and hands stirring paella was Allen Oxenberg's cook. She spoke English poorly, was so sweetly simple and kind, I concluded she was kitchen help. Allen came in and informed me that I was speaking with a woman would become an opera legend. I hadn't heard her sing a note at that point. Later in the evening, when she sang, I was humbled and eternally grateful. Worshipful would be a better word.

Caballe's voice in her prime was just terrific. Beautiful, elegant vocal lines combined with a powerful spinto weight in the middle-to-upper register when needed for dramatic impact. She didn't really have the depth of the low chest voice or the natural ease upwards, but it's such a uniquely refulgent instrument. Magic.

@@iria.arias.soprano uhmm thats not how i meant it. sometimes she didnt always memorize her music (even for roles she once sung) and a friend of mine once worked with her at SFO way back when for Serinamde (sp?).she often canceled rehearsal (relying on her genius until they threatened to replace her with Joan Sutherland...then she never missed a rehearsal. lol she was a funny lady. Just incredibly human.

One time Joan Sutherland said Montserrat told the conductor, Richard Bonynge (Sutherland’s husband) after rehearsing something 2 times that she couldn’t do it better. On the way to the dressing room to pick up her things, she said to Sutherland, “Now I go shopping at Harrod’s.

Cada pose, cada fraseo bien preparado y estudiado (denota sabiduría sobre el estilo) sin "chillar" en donde no debe y haciéndolo donde debe, preparando cada sonido en su entrada y cadencia, y lo más acojonante es cuando disfruta haciendo los pianos porque sabe que es única y se aprovecha de ello. Admirable.
