Even though I never knew her personally, I can tell you that she was just that. She cared about people and helped others a lot. She had this positive and sunny energy surrounding her and it's no wonder that people loved her. She always treated people with kindness and respect. Not just her loved ones, but also her fans - and furthermore, people in need. She did a lot of charity work. She was an ambassador of UNESCO, performed in charity galas, gave her own charity concerts and even established a foundation for needy children in Barcelona. She was a treasure.

It's funny because I always watch those videos of people speaking 4... 5... 6... languages and I get amazed and feel that they are really gifted. But I also speak 6 languages (portuguese, spanish, english, french, romenian and italian) but I dont think it's anything at all because it's just how life came to me and places I had to live in and so i learned. I'm Brazilian, my grandpa was Spanish, I lived in the US during my teens, lived 6 years in Switzerland (and didn't learn german, I hate german haha), worked 2 years in Italy, lived 1,5 years in Romania and now I'm married to a french speaking belgian and I live in Brussels... But them, it mesmerizes me how do they do it? Beautiful to hear them speaking. Funny to understand most of the languages; flabbergasting to hear the ones I have no clue what they are about.

Well, while it may look an extraordinary achievement to some, this is actually quite typical in Europe to speak many languages. Ms. Caballe was born in Barcelona, so she spoke Catalan at home, but since Catalonia was (and still is) a part of Spain, she obviously had to speak Spanish too (actually during Franco's regime, Catalan was not allowed in public and Spanish had to be used for official purposes). She learnt French at school (not only because it was a neighboring country's language, but also due to the fact that it was considered the language of diplomacy, and for that reason favoured in many European educational systems of that era). I presume her knowledge of English might come from school too. In Europe usually 2 foreign languages are taught during primary and secondary stage of education. When she graduated and moved to Basel, Switzerland, where she stayed for 8 years, she learnt German. She mastered her English during working in the US and learnt Italian while working in Italy. For someone who already spoke 3 romance languages (Catalan, Spanish, French) learning Italian (the easiest of the group) had to be a piece of cake. My own story's quite similar. I was born in Silesia, Poland. We spoke Silesian at home and Polish at school. Living close to the Czech border gave us the opportunity of catching the Czech TV signal, so I watched it a lot as a kid and learnt the Czech language from (which was very easy due to being similar to my native Polish and Silesian). Then I started to learn English at school, and chose Russian in later years. I wanted to learn French but my mother insisted it would be easier for me to learn another Slavic language. In fact it was a pain in the ass and absolutely useless. Today I work in a Spanish company and I attended the Spanish classes in our office. This is just Europe: many languages, great education systems and learning opportunities.

that's absolutely untrue, and I tell you this as a Catalan, Catalan was not banned from public life in any shape or form, Franco himself was greeted in Catalonia with banners written in Catalan, he attended mass performed in Catalan various times during his stay in Catalonia, he only prohibited the use of Catalan within national institutions (which I obviously am against, I don't like Franco, just saying)
@Melkor_Belegurth
@Melkor_Belegurth Жыл бұрын

If you read the Bible, when people die, they will be sleeping, no memory, no dreams, no awareness, nothing. And they will stay that way, until the second coming. They can only be awakened by God... READ THE BIBLE... so, he and she, are completely in non-existence stage at the moment... no consciousness, NOTHING. They had the chance here, like you and I have now... Later, whenever God the Father decides, they will be judged for what they did...and one could leave forever, and the other be tormented forever in the lake of fire, or both in the lake of fire, or both live forever... or both will come back on the second coming of Jesus Christ, and have one last chance... and they will live here on earth with Jesus, for 1000 years. If they do not repent then they will die forever...

She knew that to properly sing all the international masters she had to understand the basics of their languages first. If she only memorized and repeated sounds like a recorder, without understanding first what the words meant, she wouldn't have been able to put her heart and feelings into them.

Well, having Catalan as your mother tongue and growing up in Spain helps quite a bit with these two languages as well as with Italian and French. Not everyone starts with such an advantage. But I do not want to belittle her achievements: to learn English and German must have been just as difficult for her as for any other native speaker of a Romance language.
