Always makes me chuckle that BMW and Merc had these Evo models of their much heralded sports saloons, and Audi turned up with a limo and no aero pack to speak of and spanked them for 2 years!

The Audis were an Evo model, they had discrete aero packages, if you look closely you can see a front splitter and adjustable rear spoiler. These were on the homologated Evo spec road cars. The race cars had an advantage in the engine dept and were subsequently disqualified over an illegal crankshaft.

Ah, a beautifully preserved piece of history. It's nice to hear racecars during their era when they were actually driven fully and amongst their homologated brethren. I was lucky to find some raw sound GT1 footage from 1997 a while back. I never knew how fast they could actually shift XD Anyways, thank you very much for this

Yes, originally shown on Eurosport in English, German and Dutch. Videos and DVD's are still around too. Duke Video had them in their archives.
