@@Steveb57267Gonzaga is a nice addition for basketball, but the college is all about the money football brings. The MWC is looking at how they can strengthen their conference from a football standpoint. Basketball will be fine, but football money helps basketball and your other sports.

MWC is playing checkers. PAC-12 is playing chess. I fully expect with the addition of Zaga, when the PAC-12 re-approaches Memphis/Tulane/UNLV and says "Are you really sure you don't want to get on board the train?" The answers just might change. More likely from UNLV, but maybe Memphis.

Totally agree, the Pac is now already a better football and Basketball conference then the MW. UNLV just makes to much sense as a full time member. I think Hawaii also makes to much sense as a football only to offset Gonzaga’s basketball only. If Memphis is the goal for the Pac then bring them in as football only and do some kind of scheduling non conference deal with them so they can see what a full membership would look like with Gonzaga, SDSU possibly UNLV and the rest all playing non conference games against Memphis. you could even do the same with Hawaii as a perk for the Pac teams to travel to Hawaii. UNLV, Memphis, Hawaii and Tulane and possibly Rice (that coveted Texas market and recruits) should all be approached again.

I really do wish the offers for Memphis, Tulane and USF were better. Still think the Pac should've asked the NCAA for an additional year to shore up membership. That would allow Memphis and the other American teams to give the required 27 mth notice-to-leave dropping or exit fees from $25M to $10M. BIG difference.

Utep is a necessary add for the MWC and the PAC too honestly. But El Paso is in the MST, so it doesn’t add an extra time zone. Getting into Texas, new market and recruiting but I think people forget how big the state of Texas is.

When I was at UCF back 2005, we were in C-USA. Everyone said we were an awful conference. But as long as you get your members to put the investment and practice to get better, it's a good conference. I feel that MWC will do well and so will the Pac as long as they get investments and improve their football wins! Winning cures everything.

I hope you're not just listening to these guys. It's been widely reported that a rebuilt PAC12 gets an auto bid in 2026. Monty loves to conflate power conference and auto bid. Just listen to him. The PAC was negotiated in before they broke up. If they reverse merger, I don't think it counts.

15:11 Some people might not realize that DeKalb IL is not in the middle of the state alone somewhere. It's less than a 30 minute drive to the outer suburbs of Chicago. If *somehow* the MW could get people from the western suburbs of Chicago more interested in NIU, that would be a huge market win.

The PAC, IMO, has a self-awareness problem. Washington State, Boise State, Oregon State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State and Colorado state are the cornerstones of a very solid all-sports league but they aren’t stellar. What they need to do [again IMO] should look to the gradual build into the best G5 conference. Look, add FBS schools like Tulsa, UTSA, Sam Houston, Louisiana and Arkansas State and then look to Sacramento State, Northern Arizona, Montana State and North Dakota State from the FCS. TV numbers across the board aren’t great but they are solid. It would once again give you 16 members [that actually would want to be there]. It somewhat harkens back to the old PAC (with members still in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Utah and Colorado) so there is, in a manner of speaking, a built-in fanbase in those locations already. And, of course, 2 teams in Texas is a boon. You would expand into the central time zone without getting too far afield with the travel. All of these schools may not be the best of the best but they would be competitive in all sports and while this league might not be the Top G5 conference right now, it certainly could grow in to the best over time.

I feel like a lot of fans focus on the brands and what their team did last year when in realignment is totally on what city the college is in,growth of student body, and how much money the college brings in from other adventures.

@@tomsettles6873 UNLV and NV have been in separate conferences many times over the years. The schools are not tied together. UNLV chose to stay in the Mountain West and get paid $ instead of pay $ to go to a (slightly better but still G5) PAC 2.
