The sunrise tour shots felt like I was watching a 60's home movie or travel log. The music, the jumps at the edits, constant panning, exposure shifts, all that was missing was some grain and film dust. Very nostalgic. Definitely on my list of places to visit. I'll be close next week when driving Route 66 Kingman to Flagstaff.

I do this every 3-4 years. Take two weeks off. Rent a 4-wheel drive, throw in clothes, a pair of hiking boot, a tent for two, a sleeping bag, a couple pillows, blankets, portable stove, lantern, a fishing rod, 2 cases of water, etc. Then I just head out to the road and go where I feel like, stop if a place interest me, eat what I want. This country is beautiful and you'll be surprise how friendly the people are everywhere. It's a very liberating experiences, you get to be with yourself and silence. Pro tip, do it early spring, gas price and hotel prices tend to be cheaper and the weather isn't too bad.

It really does sound like a great experience and I'm sure it's been character builder for you as well. It takes incredible self-confidence and self-motivation to travel on your own. As long as I can remember I've always been an over-analyzer and this quality (for the most part) kept me from doing a lot of stupid things but it's also kept me from being more adventurous. Though the more I learn about the positive aspects, the more I feel motivated to get out of my comfort zone. Thanks for sharing your insight and positive experiences. I really appreciate it!

My in-laws live in between Moab town and Monticello inside of a rock. We like to take our family vacations out in that area because there is so much to see. We did mesa verde one year and this last year we went to Hovenweep ( my favorite yet) its so pretty out that way. I really liked natural bridges too. Such a pretty area.

New Mexico has a similar sounding burger chain, it's called Blake's Lotaburger but everyones just calls it Lotabuger's. Famous for adding Hatch Green Chile to the burgers and delicious breakfast burritos. Try the Quadriple Green Chile Bacon Cheeseburger with curly fries.

This is beautiful, but New Mexico stole my heart long ago. Wide open spaces and mesas that stretch for miles. Every color in the rainbow and more is contained in the desert there. The lightening storms are epic. There is no where else that matches the chiles grown there.

Absolutely awesome video and I never, ever used the word awesome. Two strange parallels. I was thinking the word ,spiritual when you said it.Also,on the fluffy side ,my husband and I had to run a bunch of errands early this morning to be back in time for a repair guy.We did so well on time that he 'd suggested getting something to eat before we headed home.We were both in the mood for a hamburger and McDonalds was the only thing around .It was 10:45 am .Went in to order but all they had to offer was unappetizing breakfast .They now serve breakfast all day but not the rest of the menu. You're RIGHT!

Monument Valley is absolutely gorgeous, now I'm really regretting that I was sick when we were there, my mother went on the sunrise tour, but I kinda had to sleep. And San Louis Abisbo (heard it spoken, but not sure how to spell it) is also very nice, I have some trouble not mixing it up with other coastal towns, though, I'm not sure I'm thinking of the right one. At any rate, it should be lovely.

Great video, thanks for sharing. Such beautiful country, wish I could experience it in person . If you get to Texas be sure to tour Palo Duro Canyon , not too far from Amarillo. You can actually drive down into the canyon. It's known as the Little Grand Canyon and is a great place with lots of history.
