This gentleman is a cool dude, nice Christian Hosoi tshirt and I saw the glimpse of Tommy Guerrero clip from Animal chin. I built a bike identical to this ten yrs ago , but it was a mock up of 82;redline Carrera in show chrome, v bars, brute stem ,redline 3 pce cranks, redline chainwheel polished to mirror finish, hutch bear traps, I built when 24 Skyway graphite were released, thinking 2013. Being a cool mofo can't be bought or lost, cool is within the genetic make up 🤙🤙🤙😎🍄

Sweet! I love my Monza too! So much fun. I like the way it feels after riding my other bikes. Feels more 80's. I guess it's because the cranks are straight, and not flared out like all my other bikes. GT power series cranks might be straight too though. I'll have to go ride it to see. Haha. Have fun!
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I’ve got power series cranks on my GT too and they are similar enough in shape/size as the Monza ones. For the Monza bikes, I just think they really nailed the geometry to give that old school feel in a bigger bike. When they say, “Your BMX all grown up”, they aren’t exaggerating with a catchy phrase… they nailed it perfectly 👊🏼

Putting together a skyway ta 24 inch. I’m using your spreadsheet that you designed. (Thank you for that!) it’s been a big help coming back into bmx at the ripe age of 52:). I plan to use this bike for fitness and just adding a different avenue of exercise. I decided to go with the pro sized bars on this. Do you feel that larger bars on a 24 inch have disadvantages as opposed to cruiser style bars. (Weight distribution/balance etc?) I want to ride fairly aggressively.
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood 2 ай бұрын
Awesome! Those 24” Skyways are so rad!!! 🤩 This 24” Monza has taller bars and they feel good. I’m not a huge fan of low cruiser bars myself. So personally, I’d go pro bars. But different brands have different sizes, so the Skyway cruiser bars might be taller than other brands.

Awesome, we’re close in age so we’re probably looking for the same thing. As we speak, I’m working on a video of my experiences taking it up to the pump track for the first time. Spoiler alert, this bike is freaking awesome at the pump track. Even as a first timer, it was so much fun!!! They do not include great assembly instructions in the box, but luckily it’s super easy and intuitive. If you didn’t watch my entire video hear, take a second look as I pretty much went through the process in the video. It comes 80% assembled out of the box. You just need to install the front wheel, add the seat/post, install the handlebars, and then attach the brake cables to the levers, and tighten the stem. After that, maybe some fine tuning. But it’s really easy. I’m happy to answer any questions if you need more info.

That's Rad!! I'm 46 and worked at bike shops until I was like 30... so I had access to all the cool shit at a discount. In like 1992? I found a NOS 1987 pink/chrome Schwinn Predator Free-Form Pro frame/fork in the dregs of the shop I worked at. I built that thing so tits-out for the time... Profile 3 pc cranks, ACS rotor, Peregrine handlebar, 48 spoke wheels with Peregrine hubs, etc.... I sold it when I went to college and blew all my cash on a new Schwinn Homegrown Factory Suspension XT mountain bike.... Please Shoot Me!!!.... regrets.
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood 11 ай бұрын
Dang, having access to bikes at a shop discount for so long, I'd have spent way too much of my paychecks there. 🤑 That Predator sounds amazing, and I hear you about the regrets about losing it. I never had a super valuable BMX in the 80s, but I did eventually get an 87 Dyno D-Tour. My parents sold it in a garage sale when I was off in college. They probably got like $15 for. I'm still bummed out about that. But I bet you loved riding your MTB in college! I got a middle of the road Mongoose Rockodile MTB back in 1993. It came LX parts, but I eventually swapped most of them out for XT. It had nice, agressive geometry. I miss that bike too. LOL. Note to self... never sell a bike again. 🤣

@@TheNostalgicNeighborhood Many thanks for the detailed response. Very helpful! I'm across the pond in the UK and would probably be buying the Monza 24" in a heartbeat if it was on show in my local bike shop, haha! I may end up having to look at other brands because US shipping prices are typically crazy nowadays plus our Government adds an additional 20% import duty. I'm not keen buying one of the now corporate brands from my childhood (I'm a similar age to yourself) but know nothing of which are the good quality brands of today. Are there brands of similar quality to Monza who are perhaps a little larger insofar as their international distribution network?

@TheNostalgicNeighborhood
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood Жыл бұрын
I’m about 5’11” and 200lbs, and the 24” fits me well. It would probably be comfortable for you too. If you’re seriously interested in jumps and tricks, you may get want to look at a 22” with a longer top tube. The 24” is a nice middle ground between a bigger cruiser and a smaller bike. Way more comfortable than my 20”, but not as great for long rides like on my 26”. The 24” is perfect for me at the pump track, and a little more lively riding around the neighborhood. I LOVE my 24” Monza, But if I was serious about jumps and tricks, I’d build up a 22” ATF from S&M. www.sandmbikes.com/product/hardgoods/frames/atf-frame-for-22-wheel/

If you're interested in just cruising around the neighborhood and long ride outs, then I'd say go with 26" or the upcoming Monza 27.5". If you're looking to mostly ride shorter distances, ride at the pump track, more agressive riding, tricks, etc. then I'd go with the 24" size. It's sort of like cars, do you want as smaller, less comfortable sports car that is faster and more responsive, or do you want something more comfortable like a mini-van or sedan for those longer road trips? 👍

I've noticed that the tire pressure is greater than that of a car's tire pressure. I bet it's because a bike's tire is WAY thinner than that of a car's tire.
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood

That’s an interesting insight. Yes, you’re probably right. The bike tires need to be lighter, so the rubber is thinner and needs more air pressure to provide adequate support.

Instead of getting that, I'd rather spend money on getting a 26" DJ bike ; a bit pricier but DJ bikes have better build and handling because of a lower bottom bracket position...Adult BMX is such a bad idea, tbh

Thanks for watching and commenting. It’s good to hear from various perspectives because not every bike is best for every situation and every rider. Really depends on the terrain you want to ride and how aggressive you want to be. It’s cool that you found a style that clearly works well for you 👍🏼

@@TheNostalgicNeighborhood I'm not really up to riding style when I commented regarding it....If you do a little research, having a lower bottom bracket position, will give you a lower center of gravity, meaning the bike will become more stable in turns and when braking. A good bike is a bike with proper geometry no matter how cheap it is.

Monza is a city in Italy, and it’s home of mainland Europe’s first auto racing track, built in 1922. I assume Monza BMX’s name is a nod to the city’s racing history.
