Imagine the thrill. You write this song as a 19 year old kid and, all these years later, there's a small orchestra behind you and guys who've played it with you for years, to a nationwide audience. What could be better?

SpectorTippy. Yes, it spoke to me some 50 years ago when I was young and in the middle of a profound spiritual awakening; “. “I’m just beginning to see, now I’m on my way, it doesn’t matter to me chasing the clouds away, Something calls to me, The trees are drawing me near, I’ve got to find out why, Those gentle voices I hear, Explains it all in a sigh,”. These lyrics and music validated an experience I was going through back then, and I didn’t feel alone on my own journey. I could see, or rather, hear that this band, or some of its members, were also on the same wavelength!

I have been a fan since I was a child. I got to see The Moody Blues in 1981 when an unknown (at the time) guitar player open for them by the name of Stevie Ray Vaughan, who just blew the crowd away, and again in 2012. What’s really is it would be the last time I will ever see a Moody Blues concert, as Ray Thomas and Graham Edge are no longer with us, and the remaining members have decided to call it a wrap. The closest we will ever come is going to see Justin when he is on a solo tour, John Lodge also tours on his own but, without Justin, I’ll pass.

One of the secrets to The Moody Blues is the way the vocal harmonies are phrased in either lying low at the end or ending high at the end as both styles sound as if they are reaching into the future...Aaaaaaa - high at the end...Oooooo - low at the end, both styles reaching beyond into the ether, plus the echo and the reverb is classic sixties genius. Brian Wilson had this down as well...G...

The Moody's music sounds so orchestral and complex, but it's just really nice, clean pop music - they just have the chops and voices to make it shine. The Mellotron sounds like an army of musicians, too. How many bands survive losing their lead singer and come back even better? Rare.

No! The have never been nominated. According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Committee and other fellow musicians from different genres, they agreed that the Moody Blues "lacked" the Rock and Roll edge" I think that sucks. The Moody Blues have given us some of the most beautiful music. They are not rock and roll, but they are worthy of getting in to the Hall of Fame. I love this song, especially.
@TedBronson19189 жыл бұрын
Cate Stone lack the rock n roll edge eh? THEY lack the ability to see further than their limited version of rock n roll. Rock has taken many forms through the years and what can be said of the Moody Blues, that cannot be said of them, is that they have their own distinct sound that has the ability to bring in classical music, and make a blend that is both pleasant and uplifting spiritually. All of us older hippy types classed their music as rock n roll- even if it wasn't limited to guitars and drums. Keep the old fogey musicians and their biases out of the nominations and the fans would put them there in a heartbeat- especially when you compare it to some of the groups that HAVE made it in that I never even heard of. The millions and millions of record sales and sold out concerts speak for themselves. The Moody Blues deserve a spot in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and are still proving it 50 plus years later. Shame on those crusted old "in the box" thinkers. You'd think a rocker would know better. They've become as limited in their thinking as we all complained about our parents and elders of being (sorry for the confused language there, but you get the idea.).
@cate43109 жыл бұрын
I read an article that stated the lacked the edge to get into the Hall of Fame. They really are not Rock and Roll. But like I said before, they are one of the best 70s bands. I don't know the right word to describe their music, except AWESOME. Whatever, eh?
