I tried one and I loved how it coloured the guitar tone and it had stacks of output, much more than I was accustomed to from a compressor.

I've been looking for a good compressor for my bass. I had wondered whether this one would even work with bass, and just the other day I found this video - the only one with bass as well as guitar. Now I'm nowhere near the level of the guy who did the slapping on this demo, but it convinced me. I ordered one that same day and it came today in the mail. I can't slap to save my life, but pounding one string, quietly touching another and popping a third as hard as I could told me what I needed to know. This little compressor makes all the difference. I may not even hear the difference mixed in with the band, but I know it's doing its job. It will be an "always on" thing for me, now that I've seen for myself how good it is, and now I truly understand the meaning of "transparent". I can hear no difference in the tone I have it set for. Not one bit. This is the fifth Mooer pedal I've bought, and I haven't been disappointed yet.

As I said in my description, I'm no good at slapping, as in not bad, but unable to get it right at all. I performed an experiment, though. I hit the open E-string with my finger very hard, touched the octave E on the A-string lightly, then pulled out the double-octave E on the G-string as far as I could and let it snap back. I repeated this experiment many times and the result was always the same: Yellow Comp off, three very different volumes; Yellow Comp all the way up, all three sounded like the exact same volume, if a little lifeless. I backed the Compressor dial down to about 3 o'clock and it was just about perfect. Within my limited abilities I would have to say yes, the Mooer Yellow Comp is excellent for bass slapping.[edit] I originally wrote that I backed the dial down to 9 o'clock, which is nearly off, when I meant 3 o'clock, which is nearly full. If it was marked 1-10 I have it set between level 7 and level 8, or directly to the right, or 3 on a clock dial. Sorry for my own confusion.

Glad I could help. There are probably better compressors out there, but not at that price, and I've fallen in love with these micro-pedals. As other people have said, you can hear the difference best when experimenting by yourself. With a band you "feel" it more than hear it.

IIRC, optical compressors like this do basically RMS-style compression, so it will not work for limiting peaks.

Didn't work how I expected. You turn the big compression around further and it gets louder. I thought the tiny volume control would have made it louder (which it also does). I thought the big compression knob would have smoothed and you know...compressed the signal and you use the volume to bring any vol you want back up. But no. You turn up the COMPRESSION...it gets louder. Haha. Fooled again.
