When I open the app now, it’s always shorts about celebrity’s talking about rappers talking about athletes or whatever. It has no value what so ever. I think most of us also know, that the whole being a KZbinr persona has changed the way videos are made in here. Everything is fast editing with annoying effects and sound bits. Even great content providers fall under this way of exposing their videos. Plus, it’s way to complicated to say “ not interested” in something. Around 2 months ago I was in a real dark place, I was depressed, unhinged, lazy and pessimistic. I decided to change my life, I started waking up early and working out, ate healthy and installed a strict filter on my phone to block social media and browsers, I started working harder and finally saw real growth in my mental health. Last week I went on summer vacation and decided that I'll uninstall the filter for the duration of my vacation, when I came back I didn't reinstall the filter. The past few days I've been spending hours on hours on Instagram reels, and my depression hit again, I feel horrible and doomed. I'm happy to have found this video, it's the straw that broke the camel's back, I'm about to reinstall the filter and get my life back on track. God bless all of you!

I keep saying social media has made it more difficult for folks to communicate in real life. Back in the day aol and MySpace didn’t even do this, it allowed us to express our thoughts and creativity. Yeah MySpace had the whole popular friends thing but it wasn’t nearly as bad as Instagram. We still knew how to interact with one another offline. Now, even getting a text back from a friend is considered a chore

Myspace was the beginning of this bullshit though... Before that the only people who had personal webpages were businesses or nerdy losers talking about anime and videogames all day long, or people with too much time on their hands and an obsession with aliens or their pet dog or some shit. Then suddenly one day it became the cool trendy thing to have your own page where you post pictures of the spaghetti you ate for dinner and it just blew the fuck up from there over the last approximately 20 years for whatever reason.

I deleted Instagram a few months ago after deleting FB last year. Not gonna lie, it's not an easy move to make, especially living in LA where meeting new people often leads you to be asked "What's your IG?" However, if you can manage to pull yourself away and stay away, it does lead to increased productivity and improved mental health, or at least it did for me. I finally deleted Twitter a month ago, which was the social media I had had for the longest period of time. It's not easy, but it's ultimately rewarding, and the people who really matter in your life will probably already have your number and email, and be OK with using those to get in touch with you.

I was addicted to social medias when I was like 12-14. It completely destroyed my health, both mentally and physically. I felt like they were telling me I was ugly, overweight, I had to be "sexier" so I stopped eating, massaged my face everynight. No matter how hard I tried, of course the shape of my facial bones would never change, but I was still growing, so I thought touching and press my face hard every day would make myself look more like a "caucasian face" Because of this my face looked swollen every day. I was of average weight, but to lose weight I started buying and taking some unreliable pills on the Internet. I dyed my hair, applied lipstick, and put on eyelashes. But I didn't look like an influencer yet, so at 13 years old I was already researching and saving up for a plastic surgeon near me. I don't know what I would be doing now if my grandmother hadn't noticed something was wrong and forced me to talk about toxicity of social media and how perfect I was. I'm so glad I didn't get into the Instagram craze. At first I felt like maybe I was missing out since everyone had one, but it's all nothing but human advertising to show off that you have a better lifestyle than you really do just for the approval of others. Every picture is so edited and touched on that almost nothing is authentic on there. Instagram has completely ruined modern dating standards as we know it and everyone is lusting after a fake lifestyle. Women if they're attractive enough can literally get DM'd by a blue check mark celebrity, athlete, public figure, or some sort of millionaire which can render the average man in her area out of the loop.

It’s been almost a year without any social media (except KZbin if you consider that social media) and I feel GREAT! This is awesome! I’m doing way more of what I want to do in my spare time and I don’t feel the urge to scroll or check notifications anymore. When I go to cool places, for example I went to Joshua Tree national park for my anniversary a last weekend and I didn’t feel the urge to take pics that were “ig worthy” which reduces so much anxiety and I can just live in the moment when I’m out and about creating memories and taking pics that I actually want to remember and possibly put in a scrapbook for my future kids, not for my 2k followers (mostly random guys that I don’t know) to see and compliment me on.. I just feel really great. It’s a huge confidence boost knowing I made the decision to get out of that rut. Lost a lot of friends/acquaintances in the process too which I’m actually happy about because now I talk to and hangout with my family that actually cares about me and the 1 friend that makes an effort to check up on me to see how I’m doing. I have a lot of clarity now. At 24 it’s a little odd not to have any social media but I don’t care bc the people who are worth surrounding myself with will text, call, ft and see me in person. I can't stand Instagram anymore. Everytime i open it up i see stories from people i know, everyone doing better than me (or so it seems). I don't care if it's just a facade for clout or to flex on other people, i understand that what you see on Instagram and what's really happening are very different, but it still hurts and saddens me. Whenever I'm at work or in school and I see someone chilling on the beach, when I stay home on weekends because I'm too tired and I see some guy hitting the clubs with all of his friends, people i grew up with that are opening onlyfans because they never cared to have a career or making tik toks talking about how many guys they blew before turning 18. Everything is so strange and I feel so lost all the time.

@@AleTitan I thought the same but I had two ex-classmates of mine reach out to me asking if I wanted to "support them", plus other girls that had their profile leaked after people found out on their own. For the Tik Tok thing I never wanted to download the damn app yet my friends and acquaintances share the links of Tik Toks of girls we personally know, usually stuff with them dressed up in a skimpy way doing flirty moves and usually with a caption around the lines of "when he's tall and handsome and does shady stuff", which is at the least cringeworthy for a grown ass woman to do.

The other day I had to waste 2 hours of my day because I went with my friend to have a heart to heart talk with his girlfriend's sister. She has no interest in her life other than smoking weed, recording slutty tiktoks and fighting with her drug dealer boyfriend (she has no money, how else is she gonna afford it?) I say wasted because no matter how what we tried she was having none of it, she just wanted to keep living her cushy life and had no aims of personal fulfillment whatsoever. It's just so sad to see people my age just be like that, no dreams, no hopes, just social media and drugs.

honestly leaving instagram helped me a lot. as a current highschooler, i was almost addicted to instagram, with an average usage of 4-5 hours everyday. id see what other people are upto, sharing all their photos with filters and dm me their posts and ask me to like em. the reel section was yet another drag for me. whenever id be bored id jus open reels or tiktok and watch stuff, thus being 0 productive. at a point i realised i was just like a slave to it. i compromised on the things i enjoyed for a damn app. so i decided to quit it. and ive never opened it since. you just gotta have a feeling that you dont care what happens there. i spend my screentime mostly on discord, talking to friends and it really makes me happy. i dont feel "held-on" as i did before.

I only use YT for videos. I'm not any of the other socmed sites. I find them like poison because of the effect and behaviours they have had on my friends. I'm in the Philippines where the level of socmed addiction is INSANE. Friends meeting in parks or at a restaurant are ALL ON THEIR PHONES. I saw the meal arrive at a groups table and this one girl hastily told the others not to start eating as she wanted pics of the food on clean plates. Even while they eat they have their phones in one hand. Thumb frantically scrolling, a fried chicken in the other. Celeb worship is a religion here. People send iPhonee to celebs. They watch mindless streams on FB and gift "stars". It's become a hell and I can't wait to move to Japan to a small town away from this madness. Great video sir!

Social media at it worst is a vulgar display of capitalism. The adverts prey on our insecurities and spam us with terminology that becomes an identity. We then try to buy our way out of the "problem" that social media has created. As a manman you are constantly inundated with adverts on hair, ED or muscle gain. Now one of my friends has travelled half the world to have a hair transplant 🤦🏻♂️ It's even worse for girls.
