The Penguin did two things that Marvel really could learn from: It made a spinoff that is completely self contained, not bothering with making connections or shoving fan servicy easter eggs. You can completely enjoy to show without having watched The Batman. At the same time, if they choose to make Penguin the villain in Batman 2, you can pretty much enjoy the movie without having to watch the Penguin show. Also, the show isn’t afraid to let a villain be a villain, something that Marvel is somehow scared of. Every villain has to be somehow “relatable” or somehow “good inside”. Penguin is a piece of shit through and through, and it shows it to you right until the very end. Marvel would’ve have him “grow a heart” or some bullshit and buy that kid an apartment or something.

They only really do that with the female characters TBH, which is why they were terrible. no arch, starts off "amazing" (at least in their eyes) from the get go, and never learn or develop in any way. It's this modern-crap that really brings down the medium as a whole. The idea of a strong female lead is to basically make her a man, and then because women are perfect in this modern viewpoint, they don't have any kind of character arch. Marvel post end game has been terrible though. The entire last phase was just utter rubbish. I mean maybe Guardians 3 was a stand out. The rest was appalling. They completely messed up Kang, too. I don't think the actor even did any research into the character. He plays a quirky, genius type character well, so it worked in Loki season 2, but when he was actually playing a proper version of Kang, it was just completely off. Kang is nothing like that, he is not a quirky genius, he is cold and calculating. The complete opposite of how he was portrayed on Antman 3.

I mean, there's definitely connections, references, and easter eggs (as a comic reader, I loved seeing Magpie and Sofia claim the name of Gigante), and those who watched The Batman and The Penguin are rewarded for it by making those connections. Interesting thing to say when Agatha all Along aired at the same time and blew the Penguin out of the water in terms of story structure. You might not vibe with the tone or take an interest to the themes, but the attention to detail and the way the twists in later episodes reframe everything that had happened before, a whopping 4 times in a row, was actually brillant for a show that started out as a goofy puzzle-of-the-week Witch comedy. I agree that The Penguin is an excellent tv shows and definetly one of the best superhero shows or even movies in a while. I hope that The Penguin just raises the bar for Marvel and DC. I think that Thunderbolts looks promising and hopefully the new Captain America turns out well. I think Marvel should make eight 50 minute episodes per season for their shows and only one or two shows a year. If theres too many movies and shows per year its hard to keep up with it and if the episodes aren't long enough they can become crammed and feel rushed. I'm excited about future superhero shows and movies.

lets see if DAREDEVIL season 4 will beat the penguin,,but i guess KEVIN FEIGE wil got no BALLS to do the sameblood than in the other seasons

TV is where DC has always excelled. Its where they should keep their focus.

The Penguin was awesome because you could of given it any other title. It didnt rely on any super hero stuff, sfx, IP, or stupid humor every 30 seconds. It was just great writing with great characters.

If you haven’t seen Cristin’s cameo on ‘30 rock’ you should check it asap. She’s so damn funny and such a great actor.
