Thank you so much for your kind words, as always! It truly means a lot to me. I’ve been practicing how to express the mood of the song purely through the music without lyrics, and I find it even more challenging than the technical aspects. I’m so glad you liked it! The song is from one of my favorite singers. 🥰

This is the period of romantic melodies, nostalgic, etc... A lot of sensitivity translated by the flute and its interpreter)

Thank you so much, Richard! Your kind words truly mean a lot to me and really brightened my day! I’ve been practicing how to express the emotion of the song purely through the music (without lyrics) based on my understanding, and I find it much more challenging than the technical aspects. I’m still working on it, and it feels like there is a long way to go. So I’m really happy to hear you enjoyed these melodies!! 😊

@@YuAnBambooFlute I agree. Expressing emotion only with music is something very difficult. But you have that ability, obviously. It is thanks to your sensitivity as a woman and as a musician that you are a great performer. 😊

@@richarde1294 Thank you, Richard! Your words really encourage me. I feel like I’ve been improving over the years, and growing up has also helped me connect more deeply with the mood of the song. On my way to continuing that growth! 😊

Nice tune, and the accompaniment is really good also. (of course your flute is great as ever, I don't need to flatter you, that's a given!). "Don't forget the place we call home." It reminds me of a line in that excellent movie, Wing Chun (the 1994 one with Michelle Yeoh). Her aunt is talking to their father, who is getting a bit disgruntled with their conversation as he's about to leave, and she says something like, "Don't get too excited...you don't want to die in a foreign land!" I guess if I knew the Chinese customs this would be even funnier! There must be something negative about dying far from your home (perhaps the difficulty of getting the body back, etc.?). Anyway, very humorous Kungfu film, it's full of references to customs/sayings like that. Oh, I found another strange tune for you to look up. It's a hip-hop/DJ arrangement of Alishan Girl. Look for "Moderator" and "Girl from Alishan". I'm not really interested in this genre of music, but I found this arrangement very interesting!

Thank you, Frank! I really appreciate your comment. I’ve been practicing how to express the mood of the song through my performance, focusing on doing it in a way without lyrics. I’m so happy to know you enjoyed it! I’ll definitely keep working on it-there is still a long way to go, but I’ve noticed some improvement compared to a few years ago. I think growing up has helped me connect more deeply with the mood of the music, rather than just focusing on the technical aspects of playing dizi. Thank you for sharing the movie! To be honest, I haven’t watched it before, but the line you mentioned immediately reminded me of a Chinese idiom, "客死他乡" (kè sǐ tā xiāng), which means "to die in a place far from home." In our culture, this is considered unfortunate because it implies a person has no place to belong, constantly drifting without settling. We also have an idiom, "落叶归根" (luò yè guī gēn), meaning "the fallen leaves return to their roots," which symbolizes a peaceful end by returning home. I think that’s why dying far from home is viewed negatively. Thanks for sharing the music too! I found one called "Hardcore Shaolin Hip-hop Instrumental - ALISHAN." If that's the one, the melody is so addictive! The word '转' keeps looping in my head, 转ing nonstop, hahaha! It might even pop up in my dreams, 转, 转, 转... 🤣

@@YuAnBambooFlute Thanks for explaining the Chinese idioms, it's very interesting to me. The first one you mentioned must be the one they intended in the movie. I love those cultural sayings of wisdom. There's another part in the same film where the bandits come and want to challenge Wing Chun (Michelle Yeoh) to a fight, because she has foiled their plots. Initially, he mocks her by saying women should be making babies, and working in the kitchen, and that fighting is for men. She brings out a large flat of tofu (they operate a tofu-making business), and says that if he can smash it, then he will win. Then ensues the battle, and of course he gets royally humiliated! Finally the aunt mocks him, saying, "Maybe you should take up farming in the country!" And I think this shows that farming is usually considered the lowest rung of the ladder in human career development. Which is odd, since we all depend on it, but so it is, even over here (unless of course you are an industrialized farmer, and then it is esteemed more). No, that hip-hop song isn't the one. The group (or person) is called "Moderator." That's the name of their KZbin channel as well. The song is also found on the "Beats & Culture" channel. And the song is called "Girl from Alishan."

@@PracticaProphetica My pleasure! I’m really happy to hear that you liked my explanation of the idioms. 😃 As for the view of farming in the film, I can relate to it. I heard similar sentiments growing up-not from any particular person, but as a deeply held belief passed down through generations. I think it comes from the contrast between the hard labor of farming and its financial rewards (compared to a relatively comfortable office job, for example). In the old days, farming meant working with basic tools, without modern equipment. People would often say, "If you don’t study hard, you’ll end up farming," implying that education is the way to get out of a low-income lifestyle. While farming is the backbone of society, this idea has persisted for centuries. Additionally, for kids growing up in mountainous areas in China, it can be extremely difficult to see the outside world, so studying hard is seen as the only way to escape, find a good job, and avoid returning to farming like previous generations. That’s my understanding. I think I found the song! I like it-it’s quite different from the original, but the adaptation is pretty cool! It adds a more modern feel to the song.
