He finally saw just how that, not only Drax, but other evil People he'd worked for, never saw him as a true friend, but as a killing machine. It only took one look at his new love, Dolly, to realize that. He realized, too, that he'd been trying to kill the only new true friend he'd ever had, even though they'd been enemies up to that point. Jaws made a smart move here, by becoming a good guy, and fighting the forces of evil, rather than being evil himself, anymore! Sometimes, all it takes, is some love!

Hugo Drax is easily the best Bond villain ever. He has this very peculiar manner of speaking, always sounding calm and collected, almost bored. His Evil Plan is more grandiose, destructive and complex than any plan made by previous Bond villains, and he actually comes very close to achieving his goals, only to be defeated because of a last-minute change of heart of his Dragon...

Slowly it dawns that Bond & Goodhead had to be tempted to join the select as inheritors of the new Eden. It's perfectly balanced against the epiphany of Jaws that in that brave new world there was no place for him and the happiness he'd providentially found. The ending of Moonraker is amazing: The highly implausible survival of Jaws and his mate symbolize the highly implausible survival of the human race.

Even though Moonraker is one of the "bad" Bond films by people (I still love it), one of the main things I love is the fact that Drax is pure evil. Trying to exterminate the world...compared to some later villains...an evil woman and man want to nuke Turkey to make an oil monopoly or Quantum doing there thing to take over water for one country or whatever the hell they were doing. This movie and the spy who loved me are two of the best Roger Moore Bond films. Roger Moore is at his best in both these films. These two movies also in my opinion have the two most sinister, evil bond villains of the whole series. These two movies are best seen in a cinema theatre. Where you are transported into the world of these super wealthy elites like Karl Stromberg and Hugo Drax. Bonds side kicks XXX Barbara Bach and Dr Goodhead Lois Chiles are great too. Both these movies were great escapist entertainment and still great to watch today. Best scene on big flatscreen tv to give the cinematic effect of the cinema.

Moonraker (1979) has 1978 likes, and I give the like number 1979. Oh God, what does that mean?

Hugo Drax was in a sense Hitler in space. I wonder if Cubby Brocolli had that in mind when he made this version of Moonraker which is totally different than tbe 1955 book?

I was wondering about that. I thought the reason behind that laugh was that the line was too funny that he couldnt hold it in. Like Ewan McGregors reading from Revenge of the Sith regarding “killing younglings”.

Yes, Moonraker was rushed out to capitalise on the success of Star Wars, so much of the storyline of TSWLM was reused.

Michael Lonsdale was a great actor: should be better known in the English speaking world but made more films in French of which “Of Gods and Men” is my favourite.

Sean Connery's lines were amazing, and it makes me feel bad about Moore being my favorite. Who could ever forget him in "Never Say Never Again" at the spa vs the Spetsnaz monster and Systema or for that matter Fatima Blush?

Master M yes Star Wars A New Hope was released in 1977 in which Bond Producers used Star Wars as their inspiration for Moonraker to bank on Star Wars Success. Originally For Your Eyes Only was going to be after The Spy Who Loved Me but they decided to do Moonraker instead and bring back Jaws as producers were getting heavy fan mail etc to have Jaws return. Moonraker did have its success but producers decided next Bond movie would be For Your Eyes Only and have it be darker in tone and more low key with less gadgets and mild humor. Alien was released in 1979 same year as Moonraker actually Moonraker was released before which was in May of 79 and Alien in June of 79.

Yes because of the scifi genre of the late 70s because by rights it was supposed to have been For Your Eyes Only it said so on he end credits of The Spy Who Loved Me.

It’s interesting that everyone assumes Bond is right about Drax having no place in his perfect society for Jaws and his girlfriend. Consider the fact that Drax had used resources to bring them up to his space station despite the fact that Jaws main purpose, namely the elimination of threats, was finished and Drax thought himself untouchable and free to carry out his plans. Jaws is massive and terrifyingly strong. Why would Drax not want those genes in his new society? Ultimately, if Drax had spoken to Jaws in a placating and reassuring manner then it’s unlikely Jaws would’ve defected.

RIP Michael Lonsdale, Drax is one of my favourite Bond Villains, it's a shame we never got a Montage of what his plan for repopulating The Earth was going to be, Jaws is my favourite Bond Henchman (second would be Oddjob from Goldfinger), shame he didn't come back, y'know what is it with Jaws working for Karl Stromberg and Hugo Drax?: Both were megalomanical madmen who wanted to recreate a new world in their own way; one in Space and one under the sea???, I also loved Drax's Women in his Master Race, they were all stunning Women but the one with the brownish red hair was the hottest, would it not have been cool had Drax Kidnapped Holly Goodhead (The Main Bond girl for Moonraker) and brainwashed her into becoming one of Drax's Perfect Women? I think that would have been an interesting third act for Bond and make it personal for him
